Dr.’s in Minneapolis??( Adult ADD) | ADHD Information

Does anyone out there know of any general doctor's who treat Adult ADD in the Minneapolis area. All I can find are specialists who are very booked up. I know of people who just go to a general doctor for thier children's ADD. But what about an adult?  Are specialists the only way to go for Adult ADD? I can't seem to find a doctor who treats this?

Thanks,

Leslii

ADD is best left up to a specialist.  MD's either mistreats it, or they feel it is made up.

I very much hate the idea of medical doctors treating adults or children, but children needs a specialist the most.

Get DR Amen's book Healing ADD in the mean time.

Check the mental health department at Park Nicollet Clinic in St Louis Park.  They do have a specialist there, that's where I was diagnosed.  I can't remember the doctor's name but she was very good and knew ADHD backwards and forwards.  If she is booked ahead for months, ask to be put on a list of people to call if there's a cancellation.

That is a good point, nobody ever thinks of filling a cancelled spot.  A few months to wait to get the right treatment is better than getting the wrong treatment.

Also once a appointment is booked for a long term medical condition, even if it is far a diagnosis, you can still seek protection under the Disabilities act if you are worried about your job issues.  Refer to your state's Dept of Labor to be sure though.  When I was in HR, we had to take that into consideration if they started seeking treatment before termination, and if they actually had an appointment set.

Be patient if you are just chomping at the bit to get help.  Know it is frustrating, but look at it this was, you can get the book I refered to, as well as others, so you have more knowledge, and know what to ask when you do go.

Wow, I've been lurking here for a long time, but I just had to register and reply to this one :P

I live in south Minneapolis and have an ADD assessment apppointment in a few weeks at the Loring Family C.A.L.M. Clinic.  Not sure how it'll go as my assessment process thus far with other doctors has been very frustrating, but I'm optimistic.

But yeah, they're very booked up; I scheduled my appointment months ago.  But my previous experience with a non-specialist ended up a waste of time, since he ultimately told me he "wasn't a big believer in ADD" and that he couldn't help me, after spending several sessions trying to determine if I had anxiety or depression or if I was just a stoner or was just there trying to get drugs.
David Holmes38538.6080439815Price tag is big for a specialist, but cheaper in the long run.I personally haven't let price be a consideration so far.  I don't have a whole lot of money, but I have insurance, and the symptoms I assume to be ADD have cost me so much in both failed classes and unproductive work that the price tag for seeking help is small in comparison.      I don't know if this will help, but I live in rochester. Quite a drive, but Olmstead Medical Center will get you diagnosed and medication in two and a half to three weeks Three sessions. 507-288-3433. Talk to psycology, set up a appointment with Dr. Gannon about ADHD.
