Did anyone ever have a problem sitting still in church? I was so squirmy as a kid, there were times I just brought my sketch pad when we went to service. Sunday school was okay. But, I didn't understand the routine of worship, example: singing 5 songs, then sitting down, etc. I still go to church but I bring a sketchpad. I don't think I can ever sit still, even with medicine.
I had problems with that until I found the right church, that had a great music ministry. My Mother use to flick me on the head, or pinch me.
I new when she did this I had better settle down; so I would go to sleep.
Like Goldeneagle a good music program helps.
I'm either squirming, or hope I'm not snoring, or drooling!
Oh boy, I have many-a church stories....let's just say I don't know much of what has been said while I've been at church. Not to mention I was always late when I went (I hate to say it, but I haven't been for over 2 years...)
I used to bring things to play with when I was little or I would sit and talk/fight with my sister or a friend (although my parents quickly learned not to let me take friends with
).
I have helped out in the church nursery and even helped teach Sunday school for a few years. Both of which I enjoyed; although they are much different than sitting through a service/mass.
I always did and still do have a problem sitting through church and staff meetings. I notice when I am with others at any type of sitting event, like a baseball game, church, meetings, etc. I am always the one that moves around the most.
I really enjoy the church I am going to, it is just hard to sit that long! Messages usually last an hour. Even when the message is really relevant to my life, I have a hard time sitting still. Before meds, I would constantly yawn too! I have found bringing things to occupy my hands with helps a lot!!
Wow..Now I don't feel as bad. Thanks for the comments. When I go to church I look around and see everyone who can actually "sit still" and just think to myself..."How can they do it?!" I feel like I have to fidget, play with my hands, shake my legs or something. I haven't made any loud noises, don't think that comes out of me. Don't know. Growing up we took church so seriously and I was someone who kinda joked about church alot (all in good fun). Like..I called church.."Jesus's House" and my dad blew his top literally. I like to kid around the serious things of life. Doesn't everyone?lol,
I had a hard time when I was little sitting still in church too!! It would get soo long and boring. I was good and quiet but i would day dream and my brother and I would get really silly in church and be shaking with laughter, trying not to let the laughter burst out,at this lady who always bragged about her voice and how everyone loved to hear her sing when she had a horrible singing voice. Nice lady but the singing was hilarious. My brother and I would look at each other and I remember one time we were shaking with laughter so bad that i was soo close to letting the laugh out accidentally. I was a bad girl. My brother always started the sillyness though lol. Mom and dad would look over and glare at us. lol.
I also used to like sitting away from my parents when I went to this other church. I'd sit with a friend and whisper most of the time with her. IT was horrible. lol. I couldnt focus on the sermon!!
I can normally sit still now but when church gets "too long" after a certain amount of time or class for that matter, I start fidgeting in my seat and looking at my watch constantly lol.
