A sudden shock | ADHD Information

Elisabeth, I'm surprised you didn't mention it to either your psychiatrist or personal doctor earlier. It most likely is nothing, but when you are in question about your body and it's reactions to things (even things you don't know), I suggest getting it checked out. It's better than worrying about it, especially when it's may even be unnecessary ... but you don't know, do you? And obviously you're worrying/ruminating about it or you wouldn't have posted this one month after the 'occurrence.' Right?

I don't know if you are on meds, but if you are, it's even more reason to check with your doctor(s). KWIM, jellybean? So confer with them, and let us know (and of course yourself!) that everything is fine. Are you on meds? If so, did it happen sometime after you started them? Definitely mention it to your dr if this is the case.

I have had a strange feeling similar to what you described happen to me before. Like you're completely normal and all of a sudden the whole world just tips like you've been knocked in the head, and instantly it's all normal again, like nothing ever happened. It almost fells like the nod you do when you almost fall asleep in class or something, only much more pronounced. It's never worried me too much because it only happens about once a year, or less. I always completely forget it them until it happens again... I'm just not a worrier, plus I am extremely stubborn and feel it would be such a silly, hypochondriac-like thing to bring up. LOL. I've always just sort of dismissed it as maybe something associated with migraines - I get migraines fairly often.

I never thought about epilepsy before. I don't think I have that.... but I've never had reason to suspect it and therefore look up the symptoms.

Sometime last month, I had some kind of shock or weird feeling in my brain, it wasn't a tingle but it was more of a hard hit of some sort. Along with that the rest of my body I couldn't feel anything. Was it a quick episode of some sort or was it epilepsy? I've never had it before in my life. Should I tell my psychiatrist about that?

As a matter of fact, yes I am on meds. But I'm questioning epilepsy due to my prematurity at birth. Maybe that's a little too extreme? But you are right, I should have told my doctors as soon as I saw them, I got so worked up on other issues like the beautician and my brother leaving and such that I didn't even think about this one at all until just now. As for a family doctor, the previous has quit so we're trying to find a new one again. Hopefully, it's nothing serious. ^_^Epilepsy is sort of a long shot.... although I suppose it is possible for one to have it and not know. Of course I had to look it up after I responded to your post: not all epileptic seizures are the grand-mal kind (the unconcsious, full body jerking ones). Apparently simply staring into space for a few seconds at a time can be considered a type of seizure -- yikes! What ADDer hasn't stared into space from time to time???

Who knows... of course, no one can diagnose themselves by reading the internet. Mention it to your doctor, just to be on the safe side.

The stims effect the electrical signals in your body, they can throw the rhythem off. But, just like those annoying heart palpatations that you sometimes get it shouldn't be anything to worry about. Although you need to mention it to your doctor. I have heard of that same symptom before.

As for the shock, I told some people about it, some say it's a seizure, some say it's nothing to worry about. So, I don't know. The closet thing to a doctor I can go to is my psychologist, and that's not until towards the end of this month. Everything should be okay though.

I had those shocks. When I was getting off zoloft. The wife and I both had shocks when we weened off those rotton little pills. I went on a depression message board and found out it was common to get those when you are getting off anti-depressants. Funny how their not labeled as a side effect. My old doctor could not explain.

It's called a brain quake. I've had them while coming down off Ritalin. Dangerous? Nobody knows.I've had that same feeling if I miss a dose (or two) of lexapro-i'm not on any medication at all but i've had these weird moments when i've suddenly sat bolt upright and frozen like im in shock and it felt like either something weird happened in my head or my heart maybe stopped or soemthing. what is this? does anyone know? its not a panic attack. its even happened when i've been drifting off to sleep and ive had no anxiety or anything, its something umm, whats the word.... you know, its not psychological.[QUOTE=fukaiotaku]

Now that you mention it - I felt something like that the first week or two I was on dexedrine - I would grab something or move my arms and it felt like I got a fairly mid-level shock!  I thought I was just pinching a nerve or something but maybe it's something else.

I wouldn't worry about it to the point of telling your psychiatrist unless it's ongoing or really worries you though.  Probably nothing I bet.

Epilepsy has  4 different types as my friend had as a child and not now.
