i had a quantitive eeg (QEEG) done, not to be confused with an EEG. the lady who did it said i do not have ADD but i do have excessive high levels of delta and some minor traits of biploar.
i had a very hard time to reach her to talk to her more about this so i called someone else who does the QEEG and i talked a long time with this lady and i faxed over my test results and she went over them with me via the phone.
so i had asked the first lady who did my test if the excessive delta could cover up add and she said no it cannot....i asked the 2nd lady and she said yes it can. i asked the 2nd lady about the bipolar and seh said that there is NONE!
i asked the 1st lady how to wake up the sleeping excessive delta and she told me to eat good, keep thyroid in check, get good nights sleep and exercise. i asked the 2nd lady and she said i can do neurotheray which is biofeedback for the brain. the 1st lady had also said that and she said 20-30 sessions would be needed but the 2nd lady said 10-20 sessions would be extremely helpful.
ok? so now i am in a quandry as to whom to believe?? the 1st lady says i have an MTBI (mild traumatic brain injury) that is mimicking ADD symptoms and as does the bipolar traits, the 2nd lady says that that is not so, that she thinks that under the excessive delta is the ADD and that that is what i have cause some of the other levels that are high are very clear indicators of ADD.
so when i first started out on ritalin idid great but now when i take it and get a lot of anxiety....the 1st lady said that that is cause of the bipolar that causes you to have reactions to the ritalin and that if i was true ADD that the ritalin would not react that way in me and it would instead make me sleepy or happy like...and that ritalin taken by someone with bipolar can trigger rage!!!
now i dont know what to do....anyone have any ideas? i feel if i asked yet another person i would get a totally different opinion...
What is delta?
go to qeeg.com and it explains what the test is that i took. delta is a brainwave pattern like theta, beta and adn delta.
Who are these ladies? Are they MD's and psychiatrist's trained in ADHD diagnosis?? Are they just technicians who run the machines?? I'd have trouble with someone who runs just one test anyways and makes the diagnosis.
Did you have the hour-long person-to-person exam with a licensed psychiatrist who's handled ADHD and related problems? Have you thought of having an MRI to examine blood flow to the frontal lobes?
Also, they are now examining the family to look for trends - genetics seem to play into it big time (all my paternal uncles AND my father show ADHD related problems - that's what clued me in). Also, they look at early childhood traumas, hormones, and other problems that can look just like ADHD.
Another important aspect is the manic depressive diagnosis. Many of the questions I had to answer in my exam were to screen for mania - as it looks a lot like ADHD but needs a very different treatment. A person with mania or other mental illness can actually become psychotic if given amphetamines so be aware!
Thyroid, and other problems should be ruled out with blood test (I got one as my family has history of hyperthyroidism - which can cause all sorts of ghost symptoms similar to ADHD). Allergies can also cause mental fuzziness and aggressive/overly passive symptoms in many people. A simple protein test can rule out the biggies!
Sorry no easy answers but don't take one person one test as being the final answer. At least I wouldn't. Good luck with it Jamie my friend!
If the thyroid level is in correct it messes with brain levels.I know a women who is hypo and seems to constantly up her medacine all the time. She takes it a bed time so no other things cause the medacine to not work cause she uses vitamins also.THE LADIES ARE THE TECHS WHO PERFORM AND ARE TRAINED TO READ THE RESULTS. THE RESULTS ARE ACTUALLY READ VIA LEXICOR I THINK, THEY ARE READ THOUGH FROM THE MAKES OF THE QEEG, I THINK THAT IS HOW IT GOES, LOL.
I DO HAVE THYROID PROBLEMS, I AM HYPOTHRYOID AND ON MEDS AND I AM THINKING I WAS AT A PRETTY GOOD LEVEL WHEN TESTED. THE OTHER LADY ALSO SAID THAT THYROID CAN MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A MILD BRAIN INJURY...THE OTHER LADY DISAGREES.
I WAS ALSO ASSESSED FOR ONE HOUR WITH A PSYCH DR. WHO SAYS I DO HAVE IT BUT HOW CAN I DISPUTE MY OWN BRAIN WAVES? MY WHOLE FAMILY IS INFESTED WITH ADD INCLUDING MY DAUGHTERS, AND GRAND KIDS AND NEWPHEW AND A NEICE, SO THE HISTORY THERE IS VERY STRONG AND MY DAUGHTER HAD THE QEEG AND IT SHOWED SHE IS DEFINITELY ADD AND I CANT REALLY DISPUTE MY RESULTS WITHOUT DISPUTING HERS AND I CANT DENY HERS AT ALL BUT TO BELIEVE MY PROBLEMS ARE A RESULT OF A HEAD TRAUMA I SUFFERED WHEN I WAS EITHER A BABY OR PRE-TEEN OR A TEEN, THOSE ARE THE TIMES I CAN RECALL HAVING A SERIOUS HEAD INJURY..
THANKS FOR THE INPUT...THERE IS NO HISTORY OF BIPOLAR OR SKITZ IN MY FAMILY SO I CANT IMAGINE WHERE THAT WOULD OF COME FROM SHOWING SOME MILD BIPOLAR PATTERNS BUT NOT ACTUAL BIPOLAR I GUESS...
EEg's are suppose to be read by neurologists.Q eeg Have herd are great cause it shows all the problems in the brain. You can have no family history of disorders and still have kids with disorders.Today things are better being diagnosed cause of technology.Have talked with a Mom who has 2 sons with Fragile x and neither parent has it. Mom is the carrier. Before 40years ago someone had it in her family. This is a extra X chromosone. You can be a carrier and your kids or grand kids have disorders. Twins also happens in some families this way also.Lol. It's just like Tom said, "Psychiatry is a psuedo-science."
i think tom is an arrogant dork, but cute! lol.
