New to ADD and Pregnant | ADHD Information

No I have never heard of the coaches, I really just started to talk to somebody about my symptoms and the fact that Ritalin was effective when I tried it 11 years ago.  In fact, I feel as if the symptoms are just getting worse as I get older.  I am not sure if this is common.

I will see if I can find anything about the coaches on this site, which I just actually found today.

Thanks for your feedback.

The first step, it seems to me, is to talk with your OB/GYN. He/she would/should know best what meds are safe to take and which aren't if you're trying to get pregnant.

The other strategy I've heard people here talk about is using an AD(H)D coach to learn tips and tricks for managing this--I'll call it "brain configuration." AD(H)D has, as I'm sure you've heard and know, many advantages. The trick is in learning to manage the disadvantages so they don't negatively impact your life.

Good luck!

[/QUOTE] I'm wondering the same - although I don't plan to get
pregnant until 4-6 years from now. I'd like to try to get
lots of non-dexedrine ways of managing the
problems related to my ADHD.

I'm interested in what people have tried in terms of
aromatherapy and herbal teas and such - has
anyone had successes with these? I'm going to
check the alternative/complimentary meds section
for this.

Personally, I've found that cinnamon incense or
essential oil on a burner helps me a lot in getting rid
of the fogginess.

On the tea side, there is one from a company that
does wildcrafting (and accepts
volunteers/apprentices - maybe next summer!) -
which is called "awakening tea" or something like
that. But it has calamus in it, which is a stimulant that
is also an ingredient of the infamous Romantic
drink, absinth, so I don't know how good it would be
during pregnancy.

I am just learning that I have ADD. I had tried Ritalin, from a friend,  in college, when studying for finals and it worked wonders.  So after being evaluated my doctor and I believe I do have symtoms of Adult ADD.   I would rather not rely on medication to fix this mainly because I am trying to get pregnant.

Are there people who have ADD and have been pregnant.  What did you do?

Thanks.

Well I am pregnant and I am going to continue to take my current med (Ritalin) at a lower dosage once I am in my second tri-mester.  But you should talke with your DR and your OB to see what would be best for you.

Herbs and oils are great remmedies. They generally have no ill effects. They were the first meds available at one time. God made ones anyhow. well, I am adhd- and did take adderall- only after my 13th week and stopped at 34 weeks. My son is perfect . any more questions feel free to ask.

I was wondering if Anyone got pregnant while taking Adderall, and how that turned out.

I need to take it to manage, but want to get pregnant. I will stop as soon as I know i am PG, but will that first 2 weeks after fertilization damage the baby?  I know tons of people must have been on meds and quit as soon as they found out they were pregnant.  I have really been suffering living in a Fog without my meds JUSt in case I get pregnant. I want my meds, but I don't want to damage or miscarry any pregnancies.

Has anyone had any trouble or know any studies that show decreased fertility or other issues that interfere with conceiving? I Know its ideal to not be on anything while trying to get PG, but in the real world, everything cannot be ideal, and plenty of people doing terribly unhealthy things get pregnant and have healthy babies.

I really want to hear from ADHD women who have had babies, anyone who was on meds before they found out they were pregnant.

Thanks,
