I know that there are plenty of reasons for us to get down on ourselves because of the ADD/HD. However, I do have characteristics about ADD/HD that I celebrate-especailly now that I am on meds and can refocus myself. For instance, I am super creative. I have always had creative ideas but did not always see them through. I am now in the process of turning my kitchen into a flower garden through painting. I have created a white picket fence, bushes, flowers, birdhouses, etc. through paint. My kitchen looks so cheerful now. I am thinking of buying a cute patio table to put in there instead of my boring kitchen table. One of my ideas behind it was I have seasonal depression on top of my "regular" depression/anxiety-so having a flower garden in the dead of a Wisconsin winter will be great!!!
So what is the best part of having ADD/HD to You? Let's celebrate!
super t - Sure! I guess you can pm me anytime you want to talk about anything. If I don't respond quickly, it's not that I don't care, I probably just got distracted by a fascinating new hobby (but I'm sure most people here understand that!). boredomkills38544.5541435185I agree that we tend to beat up on ourselves a lot. But now I know there are also a lot of good things that come with being ADHD.
I have a super-creative side as well, and think up unusual things that no one else thinks of. I always think up silly inventions, like the "cow-shaped barbecue grill" - It looks like a cow, but you can open up a lid on its back and there's a grill inside. Another one is an oven that detects if there is food inside with some kind of laser device. If there is no food inside, it would turn off automatically. (I am constantly forgetting to turn off the oven, so this actually might be useful to people). I don't really have extra money to invest into my inventions, but it's fun to think up things like that.
I recently finished an astronomically accurate glow-in-the-dark star mural on my ceiling (with 200+ stars - I don't know what prompted me to actually start a project like that). Unfortunately, It took over 6 months of procrastinating, staring up at my ceiling every night thinking "I really need to work on finishing that tomorrow. . ." It looks really neat now, though.
I hope you finish your kitchen painting project sooner than that!
Another positive aspect of my ADHD - I always forgive people easily. This is mostly because I forget what they did to make me mad, or it just doesn't seem relevant anymore. I find it impossible to hold a grudge or stay mad for longer than 10-15 minutes.
I'm sure there are other things, but I can't think of them now.
btw, I'm a new poster here.
boredomkills-I like the sound of your inventions!! As a teacher, the stars on your ceiling sound really cool. Hmmm...you are giving me ideas for my classroom! Did you know, (speaking of inventions) that it is believed that Ben Franklin and Thomas Edison were probably ADD because of their behavior? Look at all the things we have today because of them! Don't give up on the cow grill....that sounds fun and it could turn into all kinds of animal grills!
I do plan on finishing my kitchen before the school year starts because otherwise it will not be finished until next summer!
super t - thanks for the support. Most people just think my ideas are weird. Personally I think they suffer from FDD (Fun Deficit Disorder)
With the stars, I find it humorous that I can see more stars on my ceiling than when I go outside. Ah, the joys of light pollution.
boredomkills-
I love the fun decifict disorder! We sound pretty similar. Would you like to keep in contact? Share our crazy ideas?!

I love the idea of the self turning off oven. How about including the stove top burners!
I've been really
DOWN....
(need meds adjusted)

I suppose I can celebrate the fact that I have a short memory....
Now what was this post about................
