I have been breaking my bad habits and every time I do it, I start a new bad one.

that's the story of my entire childhood.  my parents would force me to break one habit, and i will ultimately find myself starting some new one....

current one:  cracking knuckles

Ok, this one I was really hesistant to post but we are all adults here, right? So..here's another one.. nose picking and flicking it onto something.. I don't know why I do that, I use a tissue at times!
..., I use a tissue at times!
Good thing you added that...LOL!

I'd like to post some of my habits, these have been going on since childhood just like everything else. Plus, if anyone else would like to share that's ok too.  Here's mine:

Chapped lip-picking

Nail Picking (I do that rarely now, but when I was a kid my nails were so short and I would constantly get hangnails and pick at them as well.)

I think that's all I'll post for now.

lip biting

hair twirling

I pop every single thing in my body that will pop (fingers, toes, neck, back.....you should HEAR the sounds that come from my neck and back!....... ankles, wrists, back hip area, and sometimes that large joint at the very top of the leg).  I've been doing this obsessively/compulsively for well over 30 years.  I couldn't stop if you offered me millions of dollars.  I get this biggest feeling of physical relief from it.  It's just the most helpful stress reliever I know of for myself.  I'm completely addicted to it.I am a flicker too!! I do it all the time! You only get it all if you pick it.You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose!

Or can we??? I work for a company that is owned by a family which all have ADHD.  One of them, the owner in charge, gets  overly critical and is such a bully.  How do you cope?

Cool LOL!! I heard something similar

You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose - but it's harder to rub your friends on the back of the couch!

uh - ok you can pelt me with tomatoes now :)

screamer when things don't happen that need to. This is embarasing too.  I had a little bump, a pimple I guess, on the back of my head, so of course I had to pick at it.  Well evertime it almost heals I pick it again!  It's been there for about a year.  It's really little and noone knows (untill now) except my hair dresser.  I try realy hard not to pick it just before I go to see her, so it's almost healed.  I was so embarrased when she noticed it 8 weeks after the first time. I just told her the truth, that it's hard for me not to pick it!  She's  never mentioned it since.   Weird!

Bepatient,

I have one too! (not as far out as you thought) I also have had it for a year

I also pick at my scabs whenever i get a cut

I have this thing with cracking my big toes . . All the time, to the point where it drives me insane.  I can't stop it!  And I don't even LIKE how it feels!! Chewing pens until they burst
Chewing pencils to feel the soft crunches
Chewing styrofoam cups, soda caps
Pulling leaves off low hanging trees, or people's bushes while walking
Cutting dead skin off bottom of toes. Biting dead skin off bottom of toes (lol, I walk barefoot on sidewalks alot, so my toes have lots of dead stuff to bite)
Pulling single hairs out of legs with tweezers (It's amazing how long a hair can be under the skin. It's so cool to get it out slowly and gradually, so you see the little clear bubble surrounding the follicle...know what I mean?!)
Seven stud hilo

funny animals, aren't we?!!

I have never heard anyone else doing this one:

I click my eye teeth together, one side at a time, and at the same time, twitch mt foot or toes, but making sure that is opposite of my teeth..... if i click my right side of my teeth, I have to twitch the left side with my ankle or toes. I kind of do this to a beat it seems like. usually 2 on one side, 2 on the other side-back and forth......I have done this all my life.

You my long-lost twin?? LOL

I've posted almost 100 percent of what you mention in earlier posts.  chewing skin, hair, pens etc. can be pica (pathological urge to chew/eat inedible things).  I had it bad.  After a week on dexedrine the urge was SO gone and I realized I had... Gasp.. NAILS!! I've had to learn to manicure myself for the first time ever! Never felt life without pain from where nails should be.

It's GOT to be common - I'm hearing it lately a lot.  It must be part of the anxiety we feel as ADHD'ers and the funny ways we release it (vibrating leg, tapping fingers seems number one and two on annoying things we do people notice).  The pills took it almost completely away.  It makes me a happy boy fer sure.

GlenW38551.5874768519I also grind my teeth at times during the day and especially during the night. The teeth are so short I began using the mouthguard when sleeping.
Hard to fall asleep with something in my mouth

My bad habits are:

Fidgeting

Clicking retractible inkpens on and off

Picking at scabs, dry skin, etc.

Interrupting people while they're talking

I'm sure there's plenty more, but I just can't remember them all right now.

I bite down on my lips wayyy too much and cut my nails wayy too short. They are so sore for a couple days after. I do it every time I clip them! it's horrible! :) I grind my teeth accidentally and also chew on my nails when I get really nervous or am worried about something! Stuff like that I guess...
