Hi Robin here
My son is 7yrs old and been on straterra for close to 5 months he started out on18 mgs, but lowered to 10mgs due to stomach problems. He seemed to be getting sick an hour after getting to school everyday. We seem to have that under control since we downed his dosage, but his attention span has is not as good as it was when he was on 18mg. Hes teacher says he was making leaps and bounds when he first started the 18mg but not so much since we lowered his dose. We thought about trying to give him the 18mg again this summer but at night with peanut butter we heard that might help. But we have recently noticed a change in his emotions. (mood swings) He seems to cry at the tiniest thing, and has tantrums now, where he never used to (ever) He just seems to be very sensitive to everything and anything. He has always been sweet and easy going we never really had a hyper problem just attention span. Has anyone else had the same problems if so , Could you help us out with some suggestions. Thanks Robin

Patti Thank you for your reply. My husband and I have been on the computer alot lately trying to find out anything and everything out about straterra side effects and other parents expeirences with the drug. We were overwhelmed with all the frightening stories, about how it seems that most of the children seem to get worse. Our son was never hyper, or sad, or whiny. And he's only been on this for almost 5months. Im just very suprised my doctor never told us about these possible mood changes. He has a week of school left, then were taking him off the drug completely. His only problem was attention span. My husband and I have been looking up on Natural Remedies, and other parents expeirences with them. I thank you for your reply, and please keep in touch with what you try and how it works for you. And I will do the same.
THANKS AND GOOD LUCK &n bsp; ROBIN
Hi Robin,
I could go on and on regarding meds, but I won't. My last attempt at drugs was the Strattera. First we thought we had it for a while, but then the doctor and I both felt it just wasn't enough. So we decided to put my son on prozac with the Strattera, well that did the opposite effect on him, I had a son out of control, per doctor i immediately removed the prozac and left him just on the Strattera. I now have a son who is very moody and at times displaying total rage. He also complains and whines at every little move. Well last week I made a decision to totally pull my son from Strattera. My son also started off with just being hyper and unable to focus, now I feel like I am left with a VERY irratable child. i asked the Doctor what happened and he just said we have to wait a while to see which way to go, possibly bi-polar. I have made a decision to try natural remedies, I feel like the drugs brought out other behaviors that were not displayed prior. The doctor also indicated that he may be a child who doesn't take well to drugs.

Maybe you should ask your doctor about giving your son a 10 mg in the morning and a 10 in the afternoon.Hi everyone.
This is my first time on the board but I feel I have something to say. My son has been on the Strattera for a year now and we too had stomache problems in the beginning so we drop the dosage and add the Concerta. This combo has been wonderful for my 12 year old. And this is all after years of Adderall.
I know that every child responds to meds differently but I believe that for my son I will continue to try until we find the perfect solution. I have also tried and tried different diets and over the counter herbs and you name it. We as a family of 5 have been dealing with this for almost 8 years. My son gets bad grades but is the smartest kid I know. He loves to read and I don't mean regular books. My son will sit down and read the dictionary if I let him. His teachers have started giving him verbal exams and that is working great.
I am probably talking to much but my point is your childs Dr. should have told you how long it would take for the meds to really work. My sons Dr. said it would take up to 4 weeks for the Strattera to be in the system long enough to notice anything. That was the longest month of my life. But so far it has been worth it.
I have had way more problems with the school than I have with the Dr's. It has been a long road and if I was at the end I wouldn't have been look for new info on the net and found this website. I have no idea if this has helped anyone but I hope you understand that none of you are alone and we can all learn from eachother so keep talking.

Hi Robin,
I just wanted to add also that my son may have been mis-diagnosed from the get go and I was told that the stimulants can make matters worse if there is underlying bi-polar or underlying depression. In the beginning I went to three different doctors, they all felt the same thing (adhd). I know that there are some cases where children have done very well on meds. I am also happy school is almost over. Then you can pull your son from meds and see if the mood problem has gone away. My son has been off Strattera for about 2 weeks now and the moodiness is getting alittle bit better, my big question is what happened and why is this child not back to norm. I took my son for a hair analysis to see what he is possibly lacking as far as nutrients or vitamins. I am waiting for the results so we can come up with a formula of natural products. There is also a product called ATTEND (made by VAXA.com) that is also a natural product. I strongly believe there is hope somewhere but I think it takes time and research on your own. I will write you back when I start my next avenue. Any questions please feel free to write. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Robin, had the same exp. with Straterra, and also gave my son tics so severe I thought he was seizing- new Dr said I am 3rd parent to report this....luckily tics have subsided, unless he's really stressed out but I am now going to try the natural route, for me meds are not the answer......
