off meds or puberty?

It could be normal everyday adolescence, but if there's even a shred of doubt in your mind that he is depressed, you really need to take him to be evaluated.  If you have a good relationship with your pediatrician, tell him/her your concerns and ask for the best possible person to evaluate your son.  I have a 12-year-old ADHD son, too, and I do believe he is on the cusp of adolescence, but he also suffers from anxiety and we have seen a spike in anxious behavior since the beginning of 6th grade, which he just finished.  At 12, my son -- and perhaps yours as well -- is pretty closed and sometimes even clueless about what's bothering him.  Getting a professional opinion will help both you and your son.  Good luck!

I have a 12 year old son who has ADHD.  I take him off his meds during the summer, and he usually does very well with this.  I'm not sure if puberty is sneaking in, or it is me taking him off his meds, but he goes to summer camp at the YMCA all day (which he loves), but when he comes home he is very distant.  Goes in his room, without a smile or hello.  Just wants to listen to tunes, or instant message friends he doesn't see.  Seems a little down or depressed.  How do I tell what it is?  I've talked to him, but he has no answers for me.  I asked if he wanted to go back on medication, but he really doesn't want to.
