My kids fat lip.My son has a tic where he will chew the inside of his mouth...it is terrible! We even had to put him on an antibiotic once. He still has this tic occasionally, but seems to stop before he does major damage.
BTW...Strattera did make the tics worse for my son.
He is a scab picker and a chewer. When he was on Concerta that ended. He was off medication for a year so we could try other things but ended up going back to the doc for a new prescription. The doc recommended we try Strattera. The lip chewing is new. He might have had a bump on his lip and so he chewed....the hell out of it. My 11 year old ADD son has chewed the skin inside his lower lip all up and now it's gloriously huge and swollen. He did this last night in bed. He said he couldn't stop! At least it's summer and I don't have to send him to school with it. Last night we spent time at a friend's house having a BBQ. He's got three boys and my son got rowdy with them. He was also allowed at the end of the night to play playstation games. That was probably a mistake because it upset him that he had to take turns with his brother. We didn't get home until just past 11 and his regular bedtime in the summer is 10 with a quiet hour before that. He's been taking 40 mg of strattera once a day since April. While it's been great for stabilizing his moods, it's not the best at helping with his impulse control. Time to go back to the doc. Becky Your poor son!!! Was he doing it purposefully? I know when I have a sore or a cut in my mouth, I cant help but mess with it, but if he was downright chewing on it I'd first take him to the Ped to make sure he's okay, and then call the doctor that prescribes his med and get their opinion. I hope he's okay Does your son do any other "persistant" behaviour? I ask because my son licked his lips raw. His mouth looked like a clowns mouth painted on. Brent (my son) also has TS (tourette syndrome) and the lip licking was a tourette tic. ADHD and Tourette Syndrome can be co-morbid disorders. And, from what I am finding out, is actually more common that once thought. Just one more thing to look into. Oh, one more thing. Meds for ADHD can sometimes aggrevate tic disorders and cause tics to come out more. I sometimes grind my teeth, but its more like im 'chewing air'. I also have this irresistable urge to cut/file/clip/chew my finger and toenails, although my toes get much more attention.I have always had a tendency to pick at my lips when they're chapped, even when I use chapstick. |
