Annoying Smells | ADHD Information

Yes, the smell of BO really repulses me, too. Nothing is worse than having to sit in a cramped car next to someone who just exercised and "forgot" their deodorant.

Strangely enough I kind of like the smell of dirty socks . . . Ok, I'm weird.

There are some smells that are really irritating to me sometimes. Does this happen to anyone else? Please share.

Here are some smelly smells:

Feces (especially from other people)

Fried chicken (I can never eat that stuff)

Odd foods

Wet dogs

Chocolate (I'm not big into chocolate, but sometimes I'll eat hot fudge sundae or something.)

Perfumes/Body sprays, colognes

rancid breath-there are times if I smell it so bad from someone my eyes will get watery. or even myself, I get paranoid and brush my teeth right away.

dirty diapers- I think that's with everyone too

farm animals- I used to go to farms, and state fairs and visit the farm exhibits as a kid, and the smell would send me into a fit sometimes.

annoying scents?

Vanilla

ANY Liz Taylor cologne

I agree with the poo odors..but also other bodily smells 8(

people's sweat doesn't bother me much. skunks, muskrats, wet dogs..none of this bothers me

Yeah - some smells have always ticked me off - I seem overly sensitive to them

Body Odor - especially "old people" BO.  There's an old guy in my town that I can smell even if he's left the corner of the street I'm on.  He's very pungent and I avoid the stores he goes into.  I once bumped into him in the grocery store and I swear he's not bathed in years!

Most potato chip flavors - Which sucks since I work in a chip plant! LOL.  I can't stand dill pickle, chili, and salt&vinegar.  Feels like I'm getting a nose bleed when I get around it fresh.

Candy - the smell of things with lots of sugar in them make my stomach upset.  I've had that since I was a kid.  Same with the sour candy that kids love.  I avoid kids when they are binging on it.

perfume/cologne - some people at work insist on bathing in it.  Most smell to me like detergent or something chemical.  I get sick to my stomach and feel quite ill long after they leave.  Try to explain it to them and they look at me like I'm quite rude though.

Detergents/cleaning agents - I walk in the supermarket and I avoid the soap aisle.  Anything with laundry soap, dishwashing machine soap, etc. makes me violently ill and sneezing all day!  Once I fight it and take it home as long as I don't stick my nose in the box it's not too bad.

Lots of others probably if I run into them I'll remember.

I can't stand the smell of:

Perfume

Propane

Body odor (especially the Amish)

Regular potato chips

mushrooms farms   YUCK!

I agree with all the awful smells.  I would say rotton breathe is the worst. I am so affected by smells (bad ones and good ones) that they can completely change my personality!  I always have an "Ocean" scented tart-thingy from Yankee Candles simmering over the fireplace.  The ceiling fans send the scent all over the main floor of the house.  The smell lifts my mood like nothing else. Pet odor, Musky/old smells, seafood, gasoline, B.O., and that been-working-outdoors-for-hours-scent can all make me literally feel angry.  It's amazing how scent can affect us. [QUOTE=boredomkills]

Lol dirty socks smell like movie popcorn
GlenW: you wrote:

and you got it totally right!!
The other thing that is worse is when two or more
cologne/perfume/body spray smells MIX and
produce some weird sulphury chemically stench. I
HATE that one! Ick. Worse when actual B.O. (which,
on its own, I normally dont' mind as much, or if it's
combined with more natural smells, like actual hay
or actual clover flowers because you are actually
outside... that's not so bad either) is combined with a
covering scent/stench, and worse if its also there
with the combo sulfur stench... phoo!

Smells I enjoy:
cinnamon, ginger and anything spicy like that (lighter
on the star anise and mint, please)
baking cakes or muffins
fresh bread
lotus incense
a nice medium roast coffee, or possibly a good
cappucino
pizza, but only if I can also see if AND if I'm hungry
campfires, while you are camping
the ocean (but, apologies to Leigh, not
ocean-scented things... although I've smelled a few
essential-oil based ones that had sea salt and
seaweed in them that were nice, could have been
the lime, though).Smells I don't like:
Perfumes/colognes that are worn too strong.
Polo (men's cologne) I can't tolerate at any strength.
Dog farts
Cloves
Anise or black licorice
Certain frozen dinner as they're microwaving and smell is coming from lunchroom while working...phew!
Rubber burning/melting

On a more positive note, smells I love:

Fresh cut grass or hay
Clean sweat, especially on a vegetarian...sweet
Garlic!
I like the smell of farm animals
Skunk, but not full strength
Also skunk cabbage in the woods
saute-ing onions
Smoke from BBQing
Popcorn
Roasting coffee/fresh brewed or espresso

Haha! I always thought they smelled a little like french bread, but they smell like popcorn too.

boredomkills38551.4024537037 Smells I hate:

- perfume, any type. The stuff gives me a headache. I once worked somewhere where all employees were banned from wearing perfume - it was heaven! (too bad the job sucked)
- strong chemical smells, like hot tar, or strong vehicle exhaust
- harsh air fresheners, like most of the kinds they put in public washrooms. They just sit on top of the heavy urine smell anyway.
- incense. Way too harsh, a little scented oil is much nicer on the senses.
- cut grass. It makes my head swim.
- BO.
- coffee breath, or any bad breath for that matter.
- garlic cooking. But I love the taste.
- CIGARETTE SMOKE. It makes me gag, and it also sticks to everything: your clothes, your hair, books, cardboard boxes, paper towels, you name it.
- even most pleasant smells, if they linger too long. Like last week I bought a new raspberry deodorant, but it kept drifting past my nose all day. I came home and threw it straight in the trash.

Smells I like:

- real coffee, not on someone's breath.
- baked goods: cookies, cakes, bread. Mmmm.
- vanilla icing.
- BBQ.
