AllMixedUp,
Are you seeing a doctor for your depression and ADD?
What are you looking for from an ADD coach?
I didn't know there was such thing as an ADD coach for hire. I find that the more I learn about ADD and the help from my psychiatrist is help enough from me. I'm just curious about what an ADD coach can offer that you can't get from your doctor, unless you are not comfortable with medications.

Hi, I've never actualy used an add coach but since realising my add have spent alot of time looking back over my life and trying to make sense of everything thats went on. I have figured out that the only times in my life that I have had success, whether this be at school, work, relationships or uni, is when i have had one to one attention from another person. I don't think that there will be such a thing as an add coach in the uk as its been hard enough trying to find a doctor that has any info on add in adults!! God I could really use one if there was!
Based on my thoughts and experiences I think that this would be a great way of building up self esteem and over coming the depressing thoughts that can come with add. Having someone there to guide and reasure would certainly help me.
Good luck with finding one and hope it helps!
ADD Coaches can be a great resource, because they can help you target specific areas of your life in which your adhd is causing problems... for instance time management or organization or hyperfocus... this is different than therapy, in that the emphasis is not on "healing", as much as skill development and goal attainment. The other thing an ADD coach can do is help you find ways to use your adhd in positive ways. Some adhd traits can be a problem in some work environments, but a great asset in others. Ideally, an ADD coach will partner with you to help you identify your strengths and accomplish what you want in life, while understanding what makes you tick. Some coaches work in person, some over the phone. Most offer a free initial session for a couple of reasons. One, it lets you experience coaching, and Two, it is important to find a good coach/client mix. Hope this helps...of course, I'm pro coaching because that's what I do. I've seen how valuable it can be for people, and how valuable it has been for me. Thanks for reading!
Most AD/HD coaches work with clients in addtion to medications and other treatments. Coaching is not meant to replace other treatment methods.
I used to refer to my therapist as my adhd coach. (as did she)
She was awesome.
She went back to school and earned her master's degree at age 50 and was very inspirational for me.
The best part was that she also has ADHD, so i knew that she really understood me and my problems and always gave truthful answers, no matter how much i didn't want to hear them.
I don't know if this answers your question or not, but i thought i'd share anyway.[
I hired an Add coach for a one-day trial. (years ago), Basically she helped me get my paper piles in control. And then just had a file thing with file folders that she put labels on for me. It was expensive and just added to my clutter. I also hid it from my dh at the time. so it was a big mistake. costly and she really didnt help. The thing that helped me the most was www.flylady.net. Years ago it was very simple. You start with bed routine, 3 things only. I could go on and on about her and she is free. However be careful now her website is very, very big and you could read it all day. Lots of info. You need to have a timer and only read for 15 minutes and when the timer rings get off the computer, because believe me you can easily hyperfocus on it. For me , I need to keep it simple. The simplier it is the more likely I will do it. I have quick tips that help me enormously now.
