My son has been prescribed Focalin XR for ADHD. He has never been medicated for it in the past. The problem is that he won't take pills. I've read much about it being sprinkled into apple sauce, but he doesn't like that either.
Has anybody tried putting it in pudding or yogurt?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks all for the ideas, but to my amazement I talked him into trying the pills and it worked. He has always given us trouble taking the liquid antibiotics and such because of the taste. The Focalin is a capsule so it doesn't taste or dissolve on his tongue. The only trick is we had to tell him that these are his "super hero" pills to make him big and strong!!!
Thanks again and good luck to all.
I had the same problem with my son. We sprinkled it on applesauce or yogurt, anything that he could just swallow without having to chew.
Eventually he was prescribed a med that had to be swallowed so then we practiced swallowing, first with mini MnM's and then with tic tacs. He thought it was great fun and now we don't have any problems swallowing pills. Just a thought.

My son also cannot swallow pills and is currently taking Metadate which is one of the few medicines that can be opened and sprinkled on food.
At first we put it in a spoonful of ice cream, which worked good for about a month, then he hated it that way so we have to switch to different things about every month or so. We've used, pudding, applesauce, you name it. What worked for a while was cutting a twinkie in half and then using a knife to get the yummy filling out, pouring the medicine in and then putting the filling back in.
My mom thought of a great idea, and bought my son a stopwatch, so now he times himself and we keep a record of his quickest time. He really likes that! He even took his medicine in pudding and swallowed it in 14 seconds. He was so proud of himself.
Good luck !
