hiya

i havent taken ritalin myself but my son has.he was more focused, calmer, less impulsive.his appetits lessened though and it disturbed his sleep a little.hope it al goes well for you.

what meds will you be taking? You probably won't seem like a different person to the people you
interact with. Tell your friends if you feel the need to share, but it is
unlikely that you will have such a radical change in personality that an
explanation will be necessary.

18 mg. of Concerta is not a lot in the scheme of things, but if you are
feeling anxious and/or short-fused it may be too much for you. Too
much of a stimulant can have that effect. I felt too volatile on 54 mg.
Concerta -- I'm now taking 36. Everyone is different. 72 mg. of Concerta
is on the upper end -- it's the maximum dosage recommended by Alza
(the manufacturer), though some docs do prescribe more than that.Wordwoman38582.9186458333 [QUOTE=Wordwoman]You probably won't seem like a different person to the people you

Jamie...thanks for sharing. I was wondering what Concerta would be like, since it is supposed to be slow release, and eliminate some of the 'ups and downs' with Ritalin.

I'm recently diagnosed myself, and was prescribed first Strattera (took for 3 weeks, couldn't sleep, got depressed...no effect on attention). Now I've been on Ritalin LA for four days.

The first day, after a couple of hours with 10mg....I felt very awake and focused....my attention and my actions felt more...deliberate, and I must admit, it was like waking up from a loooong sleep. Unfortunately that only lasted about 2 hours, then went away. I know that the LA releases in two "waves" four hours apart, and I expected to experience another 'peak', but did not.

The second day I too two 10mg capsules, 2 hours apart. Although I felt more awake than usual, it was not with the same 'aha' and clarity as the day before....I felt a bit like I'd had too much caffeine....awake but tired.

Ive done the same the last two days...but I'm not sure yet if it is an overall improvement. Fortunately I've slept like a baby.

Please keep in touch.... I'm interested in hearing your experiences with meds.

I'm 32 as well and was diagnosed last year.  I live in Ireland and have 3 children.  I started out very slow with ritalin but didn't feel much so I phoned my doc and told her to please help cause I really want to get this thing right.  I'm on 20 ml three times a day now.  I never had to wait until my next appointment. I would phone her and tell her that I needed more cause they were wearing out in the middle of the day.  I'm so anxious feeling when they wear off.  She would always help me over the phone and up my meds until it was level.  Appointments cost a fortune.  Good luck, Ang

I bet you just might quess I have ADHD.

Or maybe I just can't read.

I'm on strattera myself, and it's not helping me very much!

sorry I missed the ritalin part of your post.

I find it helps to be able to laugh at myself.
