I sent a response a few weeks ago, but I see it dropped off. I will make it brief - maybe you can look it up.
My grandson Steven is adhd and he was getting so hard to control, my daughter was afraid he would be institutionalized. As a last resort, we started him on the Reliv nutritional product and the results are truely astounding. After 2 weeks he was riding the bus by himself and his teacher was calling to see what she had done to make such a difference. He has since gone without a timeout at school and is interacting with his family. Reliv is completely balanced nutrional product. I was not sure why it worked until I saw the notes about the amino and fatty acids, but maybe that explains it since those are contained in the product. The balance is patented, it is that different.
I became a distributor of this product after seeing these fantastics results and I only wish I could get every adhd child out there on these products. They aren't that expensive, just great nutrition, they work and have a money back guarantee. If you want to talk to me or my daughter who is more knowledgable in this area, email me and I will send you phone number.s
Does anyone have any experience with alternative meds based on the theory that amino acids are precursors for neurotransmitters and will help ADHD? Anyone tried ATTEND or Dr. Saley's formulas (HTP-10 etc.) ?????? Please let me know, my little guy (6) is in Kindergarten and we've had such a bad experience with meds (tics, etc.) that my deepest mom instincts believe there is another answer other than meds......
Hi Donnamay - I know just how you feel. The tics were more than we could take and our son is no longer on meds. We did try Attend with vey minimal results. However, after reading and researching we are now trying a couple of different things. One is Dore Centers - it's pretty expensive and we haven't started yet, but we are hopeful. Diet - higher protien, lower carb (we are limiting white bread/rice/pasta etc. but not limiting fruits or veggies at all). Also, we have started him on omega-3 and l-tyrosine.
He isn't as focused as with the meds, but he is happier. I was not willing to add another med in order to limit the tic. Right now we are having good and bad days, but nothing terrible, and no major meltdowns with is a definite plus.
Others on this site have tried several things and have been successful. Look around and find what works for your son.
Much luck to you! There is lots of great support here, so look around and see what you think. I know that reading about the experiences of others has helped me calm down and look at things differently.

Dear Grandma T- Is steven still doing well on his Reliv diet with regards to the ADHD? I would love to know as I am interested in selling Reliv but only want to deal with a product that will truly help people.
Tom
donnamay, when i first stopped taking medications, i had some trouble adjusting back into the pilot seat of my body. my mom looked for many things to help, all herbs of course. a few things i have found to have an affect are sam-e, which is an over the counter drug at many stores, and it gave me more stamina to keep working, i was able to complete a day of school before mentally crashing. another thing that helped was Dopamine synthesis. i beleive its made by Metamagic, you can get it at a herbalist store. i know my parents sell it (they are naturalist chiropracters, that focu on health and connective tissues/muscles as much as joints and bones).
Also, if you want to take your child off meds, i warn you the first few months wont be easy, as those drugs have a lasting affect, not just the time it takes for it to leave your body and withdrawl, but they change how you think, and you might think your child is dumber. in a sense its true because some parts of the brain he/she used while on it, required the use of it to be active. he/she may also remember things that he/she forgot since he started the medication. i would suggest try it beginning of summer.
3rd, you will need to coach your child. teach them how to control themselves. one of the biggest things about ADHD, is that they have poor to no inhibition. start with just having them delay what they are saying. if your child gets excited and start rambling really fast, cut them off, and ask them to wait 5 seconds, and start again. eventually it will be come habitual to think about it, regardless if its instinctive. also, lay out everything you plan on doing (plan it first) to him/her before you start. that means explain to him/her your angle to coaching, why, and how it will help. this not only helps him understand the change in attitude, but helps you because you can remind him of the rewards.

If your child was experiencing tics, that suggests the either the dose of medication was too high, too low or it wasnt the right med for your child. If your going to try herbal remedies, make sure you do the research and check to make sure they have been tested for safety and effectivenss and also, many of these supplements are shipped from overseas and contain led. The product "Focus" includes chamomile, a sedative. Children with ADHD should not be taking sedatives as it interferes with learning. They are opposite of what is needed for ADHD. It contains seven different herbal medicines and I highly doubt any parent would give their child 7 different prescription drugs. Many of these remedies say natural but in fact they contain drugs. Also, if your child is given more than one precription medication, they are dosed separately. It also contains gingko which interferes with blood clotting. The point is that make sure you know exactly whats going into your childs body and stay clear of anyone who recommends a product because they are selling it and thats a real red flag. Do the research and then consult with an expert in the field
I herd that Reliv does work. I want to try it. Cost is around . per can. This is powder milkshapes.Add what the child will like to it.Just remember that even "natural" products are still drugs, mmm kay?
I've had worse side effects on sam-e and St Johns then I have ever had on prescribed meds. Just want to remind everyone. I've babysat really ADHD children thinking since I inderstand I'd be okay. Oh, geeeeeez. I'm praying for some of the mothers whose kids have it bad.St. johns wort has helped me.But the one I use is from Melaleuca. It has Folic acid,b12,griffonia seed also. Working great. Helps with neurotransmitters also.
