Hungry all the time

What are you feeding them that makes them eat????

WHAT IS YOUR SECRET??????I would follow their cues. If they do not have a weight problem, I can't see where the harm would be. Well, no harm except for your wallet. LOL You said you are keeping it healthy, so it isn't like they are learning poor eating habits. In fact, I think it the exact opposite. They are reading their body's cues right and eating. Our kids eat all the time daily both are skinny. I try to keep it healthy. Should I stop it or let them do it as long as they eat their meals. I agree they are growing: sometimes they eat like horses and burn it all of and sometimes they dont eat at all.  They will le tyou know how much they need.

When my first was a baby he was not eating at all....our pediatrician said and I quote "He will eat when he is hungry."
Oh yeah, I'm the one who eats the icecream or gets Dairy Queen. Don't get me wrong my kids don't eat healthy all the time, they eat candy sometimes like it's going out of style. I hide that. as long as they are active and happy they are doing what there suppose to do.  My kids eat all the time too, but they hardly sit still for onger then an hour.  they are going from the time they wake to the time they go to sleep.  just think if we were like that I would be 50 lbs lighter Both my kids eat all the time and they are considered under weight, i choose healthy things for them to eat. I just figured they were going through a growth spurt. I wouldn't worry about it.

oh yea we don't eat totally healthy at my house....I got to have ice cream with chocolate sauce in the house at all times.

and I do allow chips and cookies for a snack.  but they are still hungry even on a bad diet.  kids need to grow.

Thanks, he starts football on August eighth, and knows why he is playing in the older lighter category, so i'm hoping by next year if he really loves the sport, that he will realize that at every weigh in he has to be 70 lbs. i'm keeping my finger's crossed. My son has a very big appetite when he is not on meds. During his growth spurts it is tough to fill him up. When medicated he doesn't always eat his lunch. Even as a newborn he was constantly eating. I think some kids just eat more than others. My son is about average weight for his age and height. It's amazing to see the difference in my son off meds vs. on.  Stimulants kept him ten pounds lighter (he's nine).  He's on alternatives to meds and back to what would be considered "normal weight" for him.   The thing is "normal" for him is slightly heavier than "average."  He has a HUGE appetite, and I struggle over what to do about it, too.  One morning recently I let him make his own breakfast while I was cleaning something.  He toasted and ate 8 pieces of toast!  When I realized how much he had eaten, I refused to let him have any more toast.  After realizing he wasn't going to change my mind about more toast, he asked for an apple and breakfast patty (this is a vegetarian thing we get, in case you're wondering).  He ate ALL of that.  I'm amazed.  He can eat WAY more than I can even THINK of eating.  RAZZLYNNE17, I meant to ask you if your child's lack of appetite is due to stimulants.  My son would go through extensive periods of not eating when he was on Adderall.  It was very stressful for me to see him so upset about not eating.  He would beg me sometimes not to make him take his medicine because he wanted to be able to eat with his friends at school.  It broke my heart.  I hope you find an answer for your situation.  That's really a tough one to deal with.

My son is 5'4" and weighs 95 pounds--a tall, skinny kid.  He eats all the time, but particularly in the afternoon and at night.  He's always asking me why he can eat so much and not gain weight (he's not on meds), and I tell him I was the same way (not genetic, though, because he's adopted).  Well, all that changed for me when I was in my mid-thirties, and, now, I'm having to figure out how to lose weight!!!  I need to lose about thirty pounds.

I wouldn't worry about the weight, as long as the child is eating and eating healthy food, for the most part.

Razzlynne17, I am curious, also, as to whether or not your child is on meds.  When my son was, I would make sure he ate before he took his morning dose.  Also, I used the type of Ritalin that wears off in four hours, so he would eat lunch before taking his afternoon dose.  My son was/is too thin to lose weight on stims.  Like Leigh's son, my son lost so much weight on Adderall, it was frightening.  I took him off it and switiched to the Ritalin.

Abby eats constantly. CONSTANTLY! If we are planning to leave the house for any reason, even a very short trip, she insists (and then frets over) that I pack her at least one snack.

Emma Jean is less of an eater. She eats for fuel, on the whole, and eats her three squares, usually without much of a snack.

Both of the girls are on a restricted diet so they eat pretty healthily. They don't have much choice.

They have always been in the 90% for height and about 50% for weight. I guess that's okay.

shue38556.0124074074You are all very lucky that your children eat all the time. i wish my son was like that, he could go for hours not eating, and doesn't get Hungary until about 8:45 at night. I wishhhhhhhhhh I could eat all I wanted and stay skinny!!! However it comes down to this...metabolism (not sure if that's spelled right though) I commend you for keeping it healthy - kudos to YOU MOM!! Keep it healthy and they'll be just fine. How old are your children? My son is 10 years old.Hey Leigh it's a combination of things, he will get up and eat around 6:00 am, we leave the house at 6;15, he also takes his pill then. He sometimes will eat again before school which is at 7:30 during school year. But most times he won't eat until lunch, and i  know at school he has to eat something or they are sent to the nurse. Then he won't eat usually until the meds. wear off, he also is a very very picky eater so gaining weight is a problem. I am going to have to start him up on his shakes again soon. Yes he is on meds he takes 72 mg. of concerta, and the Dr. says his weight is fine, but my co worker who has a non adhd son a month younger then mine is 111 1bs., my son is 64, he gained one pound yesterday.

Wow!  That is a HUGE difference in weight in kids the same age!  Good luck with the shakes.
