Hi everyone-
Thank goodness for message boards!!! My 5 yr old son was just diagnosed with ADHD and ODD a few weeks ago. We have been using Concerta and found that it did increase his ability to concentrate/settle down but did nothing to help his defiance and irritability. We have a positive ticket program in use as well but I was really hoping not to have so much conflict anymore. It doesn't seem to matter what positive program we have, his defiance and moodiness remains. <SIGH>
Should we increase the Concerta (currently at 36 mg) or we are thinking of Strattera.....perhaps that will help with his moodiness and the hyperactivity.
Anyone else have this problem?

Our 6 1/2 yr old daughter has just started meds. She has ADHD and ODD - the ODD is almost as bad in itself as the ADHD.
First Strattera - has been on it almost 3 weeks. We saw improvement with irritability and defiance.....much better with her friends and taking direction. Not a complete turnaround but better.....unfortunately it doesn't do as much for her concentration, focus, and ability to "do" stuff. Doctor recommended switching meds to CONCERTA now instead of Strattera. Will do so in a few days but have my concerns on how the behavior will be on Concerta alone. REBOUND with Concerta? I hope not. Will let ya know.
Dr. said that the ODD will usually improve but not take it away entirely if its truly caused from the ADHD. May want to try Strattera or talk to doc about adding it?
Doc said Stratter works very well in about a third of kids, so so in other third and not at all in about other third. Its "trial and error" which is scary when its your child but "life as we know it" isn't pretty when they have ODD. I understand.

Both of my kids were on concerta, it helped for about a month or two, your child is on a higher end dose. I would suggest another medication. Strattera is good for anger problems, but it takes about 6 weeks before you notice a difference.
Also, when your dealing with a ODD child, it gets more complicated, you have to work on the odd seperate from the adhd email me directly if you would like to chat one on one.
