Crazy on Concerta | ADHD Information
My 9 year old son's dose of Concerta was just raised to 54mg as he was not responding well to the 36mg. He had a very good day, got through day camp great and all seemed to be good again. Then tonight when the medicine wore off and I tried to discipline him by taking away a privelege, he went crazy. Throwing things at walls, kicking, screaming, calling me a f**kin bitch, and that he wanted to kill himself. My husband and I had to physically restrain him for 5 minutes before he would stop thrashing and screaming obscenties. It was like a sceen from the Exorcist. We are a very normal, usually happy household, and this has devastated our family. My 14 year old who is a wonderful girl is emotionally distraught. Can Concerta cause this rebound effect...although not normal, is it common with ADHD?
hell ya it can cause this effect. i had to deal with it for about for about 13 months while thinking something was wrong with me and it couldnt be the meds. one day i randomly was reading a book about prescriptions medicines in barnes and noble and found out concerta was to be taken on an empty stomach. this helps alot. just have him take his concerta exactly 10 to 15 mintues before he eats breakfast. if he gets sick you will know that he has waited to long. by sick i mean throwing up not little stomach pains. basicly this improves the rebound from a violent angry state to a lethargic tired state. i know, a lethargic tired state isn't the best but it's better. personlly i think you should try a different medicine. i am switching to focalin.
