First of all Welcome!

This is the right place for answers - lots and lots of em LOL

Well, I've tried Strattera too - got cramps and hyperfocus so I cut it out.  I'm using dexedrine spansules (time release) and they do the trick.  I don't get tired during the day - and they last 9 hours strong.  I do take "holidays" without the meds so I don't have to up the dose as often.  one week out of 6 seems to do it - but I've done the weekend and it helps too.

Remember - tell the doc if it's not right for you - they can up or lower your dose or try something new.  If the doc doesn't listen - shop around!

Good luck to you - it gets better :)

Welcome aboard here -

I was diagnosed with it several months ago - so I am pretty much in the same position you are. I denied it for sooo manny years while my wife suspected me of being one... eventually I caved in and now listen to what my wife suspects after I was falling down drunk.

I was on Strattera for two months until I complained to the psychiatrist it doesnt help so I am recently put on Adderall RZ 2 days ago. It's still too early to tell but one I notice the big change is that my leg no longer fidget... that is a progress, I think.

One of the key factors is the input from the spouse and/or the children. Their inputs to psychiatrist help a lot.

So far my children and wife seem to be happier. Need to be open minded to inputs from other members.

Good luck and hope you get the right one soon.

Thank you for the welcome!  I am going to be seeing my doctor again soon, so I think Im going to ask for a medication switch all together. I used to take ADD meds before they had time released.  I took Cylert and Dexadrine.  Both were not time released, so you were really high and alert for a while and then you would just crash and burn.  I love the time released dosage.  It really seems to be effective. I would like to try adderall, but I hate to ask for it because there are so many people who abuse it.  For some reason I'm afraid of my doctor thinking that Im just another one of those people.  I think I'm just being paranoid.

Anyway, I can't seem to stay on task with the concerta either. I will start cleaning, and while I'm cleaning, I see that we need new blinds. I immediately run to Lowes for new blinds without thinking twice about it.   I then come home start cleaning again, start dinner and while cooking I decide that the kitchen just really needs a new paint job.  The next morning Im off to Lowes for paint.  Meanwhile, someone still needs to hang the blinds, the cleaning has not been finished, but Im spending half a day painting the kitchen.  The color looks great by the way. Okay, that was a tangent. I don't even know you guys and Im already showing how crazy I am.

Hello there. My name is Amanda, I am 26 years old, married with a family.  I really came here to see if any of you could answer some questions for me and to meet other people my age that have ADD.  I took meds for ADD when I was in highschool.  When Cylert was found to have negative effects on the liver, I stopped taking it and refused to take anything else for my ADD because I was afraid of the negative effects it might have.  Recently I have had so much trouble concentrating, keeping my thoughts straight and just being productive in general. I tried Straterra I didnt do well with that.  It was almost like taking a placebo, except I was more like a zombie when I was on it.  It seemed to zap my personality.  I am now taking Concerta and it makes me so tired!  The first couple of hours Im a ball of energy, but then I bottom out and want to just fall asleep.  I am currently taking 37 mg.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Have any of you taken adderall and concerta?  Could someone give me a comparison of the two from personal experience?  Thank you. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

I don't even know you guys and Im already showing how crazy I am.

Doesn't sound crazy to me!

Good luck with the meds.

I'm on stratterra, and I don't feel itis helping a whole lot.  I want to give adderall a try.

By the way welcome to ADDerland.
