happygirl - No, I took him completely off of the concerta. Since all stimulants can cause the tic, the only other option was strattera, which doesn't help as much with attention issues. Since that is really his major issue, we decided to work on other options.
Overall, he is much happier and has fewer meltdowns. His biggest issue right now is impulsivity which causes issues socially, but he is maintaining his grades in school, and we are finding strategies to help him get homework done in short spurts. We are making lists, having practice sessions on behavior issues to help him find better ways to handle difficult situations, and trying to praise all good behavior. Excercise seems to help - too bad I can't get him out of bed really early and make him run a couple of miles. We are also looking into kiniesiology (spelling?) and other exercise programs specific to ADHD. We are trying to limit carbs, especially sugars and white flour.
So far so good. Not great, but better than we expected.
My son is 11 and developed a facial tic after 2 years on concerta. We took him completely off of the meds because it became so severe. It resolved itself in about 6 weeks. good luck.Dear Krobb,
