Wellbutrin | ADHD Information

Thanks for the replies.  I understand that the drugs will work differently for different people.  It just seems like now that I know what the ADD symptoms are, I notice them more than I ever did before!  I want some kind of relief from them at times.

I'll definitely will talk to my doctor about the Wellbutrin and see what he thinks.

My therapist suggested that I might want to try Wellbutrin for my ADD.  I'm currently on Prozac for my Anxiety.  But I'm still having problems with the racing thoughts and not completing alot of tasks.  (It's better but still a problem for me)

I am just wanting to check with anyone that's taking Wellbutrin or Wellbutrin and Prozac.  Did you notice a difference with Wellbutrin?  After being on it for a little while, did the symptoms get worse again (did the meds seem to stop working)?  Did you have to change the doses alot?  Any side effects?

You can PM me if you like.

Thanks!

The only ADD med I have ever taken was Welbutrin. It made a tremendous difference for me. I thought I was being treated for depression and stress as my dr.  had told me once that adults don't get ADD or that was what he would dx me with. He must have learned they did or just tried it out of desperation. He put me on Welbutrin, but if he told me he had changed the dx, I don't remember it.

I considered it a miracle pill. After 3 yrs of trying all kinds of meds for different symptoms, finally I was taking one which worked on most of them at once. I could think more rationally, although I still had problems with focusing on one thing if there were any outside distractions.

My mind didn't race, I had more impulse control, I could multi-task enough to get by. I could even stay on task better. I didn't feel as depressed or anxious over every little thing.

It wasn't a miracle pill but it definitely improved the quality of my life. I actually got promoted at work for the first time ever.

I have seen posts by others who did not have the same success with it. Everyone is different and someone posted on one thread here that it works on one area which one of the others which is similar doesn't. I hope they see this thread and repeat it as I don't remember where I saw it.

To me, it is definitely worth trying and it is inexpensive compared to many of the ADD meds.

Hi,

Can I ask what dosage of Welbutrin you both are taking? My doctor wants me to try 150mg, 2x/day along with my Lexapro.

I was on Welbutrin 150mg once a day but that was because I got diagnosed with IBS. So, since I was on it before for over a year she wants me to try a higher dose w/the Lexapro to see if it helps with the ADHD.

I've tried Adderall & am not able to take any of the stimulant meds. Because it causes my anxiety to get worse.

I've been taking 400mg of Buproprion SR (generic Wellbutrin) for almost a year to treat depression. It has worked like a charm for that. However, now that I am not spending so much time laying in bed all day in despair, I have all the symptoms of ADD. It's ironic that I only started to really suffer from ADD symptoms because I was taking Wellbutrin!!Exactly, why are natural alts not having studies done.....we all know why...the human condition..I'm not sure if the "thinking reed" is accurate anymore..the cavemen may have been thinking more clearly Mrs. Thorsen, eureka!!   Only, growing up you must have had the symptons....then later on depression masked them...what you said just twigged me to why certain things changed when I started on Wellbutrin 5 /6 years ago....i was doing ADHD all along (never knew it) but the Wellbutrin got me at least partially out of bed....I've wondered what would happen if I went off it now...would love to find a natural alternative but so much of that stuff is $$$$$ and none is covered Sabina,

I notice a difference in my feelings even if I miss a few doses of Wellbutrin--my depression pops right back to where it was--so I have no intentions of stopping as long as it makes me feel normal. And for other medical reasons I can't take Strattera right now (what my doctor recommends trying for the ADD), so I've been trying natural methods to control ADD. Mainly I meditate daily (well, that's my goal. . .) and it really has been helping me. My focus and attention are not much better (although I understand it takes months of meditation to affect that), but now I don't feel overwhelmed by all the things I have to do but can't seem to get done, and THAT has made my life much easier. And meditation is a free and easy treatment!!
