Unfortunely, there are no definitive medical tests for bipolar disorder, Obssesive Compulsive Disorder, Autism, schizophrenia, etc so validity for all of these disorders are established through a diagnostic criteria by those trained in the field of treating these disorders. Stimulant drugs for ADHD do not cause mild schizophrenia and there is not one documented case validating such a claim. What we read and hear on the news for the most part is propaganda and sensationalism and its extremely alarming when the public is cosntantly mislead like this. Many of the studies observed on the internet are either junk science or garbage spewed by scientologists. Whether parents choose to medicate or not, its important that you seekout accurate information and collaborate with your doctor.

"Although an independent diagnostic test for ADHD does not exist, there is evidence supporting the validity of the disorder. Further research is needed on the dimensional aspects of ADHD, as well as the comorbid (coexisting) conditions present in both childhood and adult forms"

There are many other disorders that as my sons psychologist says "over lap" ADHD. From what I have found they can include Bipolar, Sensory Integration Dysfunction, depression and many others.

ADHD is real, but more studies are needed to make sure that children are not being misdiagnosed with it or have other disorders combined with it.

Be rest assured, there have been no actual studies found that the meds commonly used to treat ADHD have resulted in schizophrenia.

"The resolution encouraged teachers not to rely on drugs as a crutch for controlling classrooms. The board's offended opponents fumed that Ritalin skeptics were medically ignorant and prejudiced against students diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. But experts at the National Institute of Health themselves admitted in a consensus statement last fall that "an independent diagnostic test for ADHD does not exist." More studies are needed "to establish the validity of the disorder," the panel determined."

This is something that I just recently read and let me tell you something i'm digusted. I also heard some news that a long term side affect to ritilin, cylert, and many other medications used to treat adhd, is mild pschyzophrenia. I have many friends and family who would be affected by this.

If there is anyone who has heard things about this or such things of this nature please let me know, i would like to know as much as possible.
