ADHD meds not working | ADHD Information

Keep working with your son's psychiatrist. It may take a while to hit upon
the right medicine or combination. There are many more to try.

Can anyone tell me...if you do not have ADHD and your on medicine for that what it does if anythhing to you....My son has been on 2 different meds and neither one has done anything that we can notice except make him a little more moody, so I was wondering if you dont have ADHD if the meds just don't anything?????

Thanks

You're unreal.

Most people live on prescription drugs.

If a neuropsychologist did not diagnose your son, I would be skeptical of the diagnosis.  Neuropsychologists administer lots of tests to diagnose many childhood disorders, including but not limited to ADHD.  In addition, ADHD is not the only disorder that has the symptoms of inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity.

What does your son's doc say about the meds not doing much to help your son?

Be sure to allow some time to see if it is not a medication that requires time to show signs of improvement. But be sure to monitor vitals.

Bussey,

He may be a fast metabolizer which means his body is working through the drugs so fast that there's very little change.

The tests to find out just how fast a metabolizer he is are expensive.

If that's the case,  he's lucky. Most of the people who die from prescription drugs are slow metabolizers and the drug just builds up in their system. ( 1 American dies from this... every 5 minutes.)

I am sorry, I thought all used a Neuro..

Hey get to a neuro, your wasting time if you don't.

 They do a better job,

 and find one adhd literate.
I second the recommendation by smallmom. He may not HAVE ADHD. Could be one of several ADHD mimickers. A NeuroPsych, imo, is your best bet for a very thorough and most accurate dx.[QUOTE=Bussey]

It never hurts to get a second opionion on the diagnosis.

In my opinion just increasing attention doesn't always help either. I think some kids need 1 on 1. If your child is mostly hands on type in my belief a Montessorie education is better.
