Can someone explain to me a newbie...What is the difference between the Ritalin Family and the Adderall Family?????
Me, too--I'd really like to find out. By the way, Bussey, from what I've been reading, other members seem to post that Adderall is stronger/more effective (?) than Ritalin . . . anyone else got anopinion on this? Please?I wish someone with experience would reply to this post cause I have the same question. I'm also a newbie - and wonder if one medication would be better than the other.Thx for the info, momO2boyz!Ritalin is methylphenidate, adderall is a mixed amphetamine med. One isn't necessarily a BETTER med than the other since all meds effect everyone differently. My son was origionally on Ritalin long lasting and didn't do well. I saw an immediate improvement in his symptoms but it wasn't enough to get him through the school day. Once I upped his dose enough to get to that point it made him really depressed and then started to cause hallucinations. He was also very agitated and aggressive(which he is anyway, but the med aggravated this symptom) He is now on Adderall XR and while it has been better it still isn't enough. He has gotten used to the med and is no longer effective. This week we will be deciding to either up the dosage or switch to another med. By the way concerta is the same med as ritalin, just broken down differently in your body.
