EKG and Adderall | ADHD Information

I've been taking Adderall XR for 1 month and just got moved to 30mg from 20mg.  On my last visit, two days ago, my Dr. wrote me a referral to have a EKG done.  She said that that it is a precautionary measure for Adderall due to the ban of Adderall in Canada.

Not that I am worried but I am just putting it out there since I think it is an excellent idea.  I like taking it and want to continue but if I have some predisposition I want to insure it doesn't cause any other issues.

Has everyone's or anyone else's Dr. recommended an EKG while taking Adderall?

I have had some heart damage due to chemotherapy. Therefore, when I talked to my psychiatrist about receiving medication for my ADD, he crossed Aderall right off the list and said he'd consider prescribing either Ritalin or Strattera but only with the consent of my cardiologist.

All of these drugs are amphetamine-type drugs which stimulate the circulatory system along with brain chemistry that's beneficial for AD(H)D. Because of potential heart toxicity, doctors are aware of potential heart-related side-effects and tend to be cautious, especially when there's any heart-related history involved.

You may want to talk to your doctor about his/her thinking about this and whether Ritalin or Strattera might be a better choice for you, depending on your history. Because of my own doctor's reaction, I'm assuming these two drugs don't have the same degree of heart toxicity as Aderall.
