Hi All,
I'm not new to the board(s), but I haven't posted in such a long time I forgot my password and member name
I have an 11 1/2 yr old who is going thru puberty
and has been having emotional "moments" for the past 2 1/2 weeks. He recently saw his ped. for his annual check up and when the ped. asked us questions pertaining to his meds (Concerta 54 mg, Zoloft 50 mg). I stated everything seemed fine, that he had his moments just like any "tween".
What concerned me about the most recent episode is that he fell apart when his friends "ditched" him because they wanted to do something different. Normally, he would take this all in stride. This time, he went into hysterical crying, saying he was stupid, had no friends, he should kill himself, etc. He came crying over to me asking for help. The next day we called the ped back who spoke to my husband who asked that we carefully wean my son off of the Zoloft. Sooooo, we reduced his mg. to 25. He is having flu like stomach pains and still . . .emotional outbursts (one yesterday before football practice and one today at day camp).
Has anyone else had any experiences similar with Zoloft? What about the combination of Concerta and Zoloft?
Thank you,
Julie (in Rochester, NY)
I can't give any advice on the meds with those 2, but just in general be there for him. I imagine it's not often an 11&1/2 year boy comes to his mom/parents for help. It sounds like he's crying out. Take advantage, if you can.
