My 8 year old son is on Concerta and it definetly wears off in the evenings. It seems to last about 12 hours. If he has a really busy day at school it may wear off even earlier. On those occasions, if we need him to be focused, we give him Focalin 1/4 of a tab. It works great and lasts about 4 hours. On the lazy days of summer, when he sleeps in later, we have trouble with the Concerta lasting too long. But, a big glass of orange juice usually does the trick. If not we give him a Benadryl, I hate to do that though b/c he really drags the next day.
Anyway, hope I helped.
What is Focalin? Yeah with adderall xr my boys can not have orange juice or else it wipes out half of the medicine. I am just trying to figure out our options, for something that can help not only at school but after school as well. Thanks so muchI am currently on adderall and adderall xr (have been for a few years). Although, I have also tried Concerta. I, personally, didn't care for the Concerta and found that the adderall worked much better with less side effects. The adderall xr does not last all day for me, so I take quick release adderall in the afternoon/evening to help get through the rest of the day.Yeah, I tried concerta and hated it. The side effects were absolutely horrid. I was having major panic attacks and was very, very emotional (uhhh ... well I've also been diagnosed w/ generalized anxiety disorder and major depression, so that could have made things worse). I never want to see those pills again. Currently on Wellbutrin SR (trying to target both depression and ADHD simultaneously ....lol) ... we'll see what happens.
The news:-)

We don't get Adderal in Canada anymore... but there is rumor that they are bringing it back.

Really?
Where did you hear this? I really hope they do ... from what I've read on this board, it seems to be very effective.

I just read it hear somewhere. AND, I do see alot of talk on here that is very different when they talk about adults vs. children. We tried Adderal 1st and it completely zoned him out. My DH is also ADHD/OCD and he takes Adderal and Lexapro. He does great with it. He can't say enough good about his meds.
Hi Kastas,
Yes, the response to these meds does seem to differ between adults and children somewhat ... and between individuals in general. Really, the only way to find out if it works is to try it.
Even if they did bring it back in Canada, I'm not sure that my doc would prescribe it (since it's a stimulant ... and my response to the last stimulant I took was ... less than desirable
).
