Ritalin worked great but now... | ADHD Information

I just started Ritalin 6 days ago. 20/mg /day had little or no effect, so Dr. told me to go to 50mg or 60 mg. Feel much calmer, am nice on the phone, talk slower, but am still forgetting things , like asking the same question 3 times in 5 minutes, or forgetting where I'm driving too, then remembering then forgetting, and again and again and again. The driving thing doesn't usually happen like that, and I know I had forgotten to eat. No ear stuff, but it makes me a little sleepy. Not nervous at all, but I know I have a high tolerance for medication and metabolize it quickly.

Stimulants speed up the central nervous system, that would be the reason why you're experiencing the ringing in your ears.  Think of it this way, when you're in shock you also experience a sense of ringing in your ears due to adrenaline.  My only conclusion is that you're being overstimulated.  Take it from me, i've been there, and I have a fear of taking any stimulants anymore because of the nervous feeling you're left with when the medication works out.  The extended release didn't cut it for me either, it slowed me down, and prevented me from sleeping.  Caffeine will definitely intensify the stimulants effects.  Try to drink sprite when you notice the nervousness, it helps somewhat.

Johnnyboi38580.9397569444Well, I haven't had any coffee in the last few days and
lowered the dosage and the ringing seems to be gone. The
nervousness is less, but what remains might simply be
because I have a lot of things going on (and going wrong
right now), so I am under a lot of stress. The Sprite
sounds like its worth a try. Interesting how things work
together like that.

Hi All!

For the first couple of weeks, Ritalin was working fine for me. I was taking 3x10mg and was doing great. Now, I seem to be more nervous/anxious. I no longer have my short temper and I can concentrate a lot better, but  the nervousness/anxiety is bothering me. I also have a feeling of a very slight buzzing in my ears. I think this is related and possibly due to elevated blood pressure.

I have an  appointment with my doctor soon, so I am going to discuss it then. Plus, I am going to decrease to 5mg doses for a while and see if things get better. I also stopped drinking coffee, which I read can increase the effect (being a stimulant itself).

I was wondering if anyone else had similar experiences.
