Glad it went well!

Sounds like your son is doing great! That's wonderful

First.  Matt came home last night all excited about a science project that he has to do.  he had a list of materials that he needed and we went to the store to get the materials.  Then he came home and on his own he went and found a card board box, drew out the shape of a plant nucleus and cut it out and painted it.  I helped him not one bit.  He practiced his Spanish tongue twister with out complaining and we even laughed about it.  He did his math studying.  He was happy!

Then I met with his teachers this morning.  They said that last week in the beginning of the week they had a tough time keeping him on track and that he struggled with math and with Spanish but that by the end of the week math was fine, he was calm and all was well.   Except Spanish .. but we are going to work on that.  He is in a class of 15 kids in the morning and a larger class in the afternoon, but the teacher in the afternoon class has the room divided into pods of 4 students per pod and is so happy in that class.

they gave me an extra set of books to come home.  They all agree that they will help him with redirection.  That he does better with structure and that they not only have it but that they will watch it with him.  That they noticed his social issues (PDD-NOS) and that he will be working in smaller groups all year this year and that should help him get past his shyness.  That they will watch who they place him with.

All four teachers started talking together about what they could do to help Matt .. lthey were coordinating and coming up with ideas!  I told them that this year was already so so much better.  It's the smaller class size and the individual attention.

All of them highly reccomended doing an IEP.  All of them are eager to help along the gifted placement.

It was so positive.

Then Matty walked into the classroom and immediately some kids fromhis science class asked him if he had brought in the things that he needed to bring in for the science project.  That may seem normal to most, but for another child to call him by name and interact with him on ANYTHING is a step forward!

As an aside.  I put Matt back on 5 mg of Adderrall.  His dad is not happy unless he is totally in charge so even though he agreed to putting Matt back on meds, he said "well he insn't himself when he is on meds.  When I talked to him on Sunday his affectation was totally different.  To which I responded that he wasn't on meds over the weekend.  LOL .. so he said well maybe I am attributing someting to the meds that I shouldn't, maybe he was just tired ... YA THINK?????  LOL

So anyway, I am going to go now and print off info on ADD and PDD-NOS .. nothing too long b/c I just want to give it to his teachers so that they can get an idea what the conditions are.  And I also told them to take a look at this site and that they would get an upfront and personal look at ADD/ADHD/PDD-NOS and a whole host of other issues.  (I hope you all don't mind)

:)

Thanks to everyone who commented yesterday.  I appreciate it!

Cause he needs therapy services we can't get else where. Our daughter is smarter than me also.  I am unable to cause of lack of knowledge/patients. Cost is another issue also. Don't ya  just love the  first week of school and  they already have a  project to be  done....... BTW   WAY TO GO...

The extra set of books is one of the best things we ever did.  Way to go.Clap

Wow Tisacson...........what a great start!!!!!!!!!!When the school and the parents work in a colllaborate effort to address the childs needs, together with effective medication, its a win/win situation. While there are always bumps in the road for any child, ADHD or not, for the ADHD child that has such effective interventions and treatment, the bumps are fewer and the successes are many.. So happy to hear this!!!!!!  What a GREAT feeling that must be!  I'm so happy to hear such good news.

Sounds like your son has a great team of teachers willing to work with him in a positive manner.  There should be more teachers like that.  With support like that, I'm sure he'll have a great year.

We hate school and prefer summer when we just can do fun things. The stress of school just increases all our anxiety.
