The other night; I was watching TV and one of my favorite shows came on, In the sitcom; one person in a group was talking about their mental "trouble" coping with life; and someone mentioned "Ritalin" (if i remember right) . An older woman said; "Oh please; you should just handle it the old fashioned way with alcohol!" Wow! It rang so true. I was raised in an alcoholic family. When I was first diagnosed with ADHD, my doctor asked me "Who else in your extended family might have this? I told him my parents were alcoholics and he said "There it is!" I didn't think much about it then; but now in thinking back 35-40 years; I'm convinced that my dad had ADHD; and what was said on that TV show was so true. People have had this disoreder for who knows how long? I'm not trying to say that all alcoholics have ADHD; but I'll bet a huge percentage of them do. Maybe in the future; we'll be telling our grandchildren "Why don't you just handle it the old fashioned way with amphetamines"
