Barb - PS

Do you take this for ADD? If so how has it helped you?

Well I can't really help you much, Thorns4Life, but I recently started taking Wellbutrin (last week).  Currently on 100 mg.  If I remember correctly, my doc said that the usual starting dose is 150 mg (don't quote me on that though).  She also said not to worry about the seizures ... a lot of people experienced seizures back when they prescribed 600 mg (?) doses ... they don't occur nearly as often with lower doses prescribed these days.  But anyway, you should really talk to your doc to be sure.

I have never taken anything but Wellbutrin but will bump this up for others. Hopefully someone will have an answer.

I would really like to know how the wellbutrin compares to adderall.  I am considering wellbutrin for ADD, hoping to get rid of the adderall crashes and being able to remain at a fast pase.I took wellbutrin for about 6 months-prior to an ADD diagonosis, this was the most helpful medication I have been on and actually helped me realize I was ADD. When I started wellbutrin I gradually increased my dose by taking only 1 pill a day for the 1st week and then taking the 2 a day. This i think is done because wellbutrin can have some really nasty side effects and it also builds up in your system. When one quits taking wellbutrin you also need to gradually decrease the dose as there are withdrawl symtoms as well. I never took wellutrin with another med-combo, so I don't know how that works. I loved wellbutrin, however one day I woke up and it just quit working--upped the dose and still nothing, so now I have taken concerta, ritalin, adderal, provigil, ect. ect..with no results!!!I think I'm about to give up, Wellbutrin was like a portal into what I could have been and now It's closed and nothing else will open it but I still have hope--Good Luck to you.Besides hallucinations, how is your mood?

I started on it with what is and always has been my full dose. I must have been lucky that it was right the first time.

I have gone on and off it for years. I never take more than a day or two for it to make a difference. I usually take it every other day for a couple of weeks before I quit, although I have just stopped and it hasn't bothered me much.

It has made a big difference in my ADD symptoms except for the focus issues. I think it may make some difference with those but not a lot.

You should probably read everything here that you can find on Wellbutrin, as from what I've read, it has been more beneficial for me than some of the others. If you are worried about the negative effects, I haven't really had any. I do know others have though.

I can't compare it to anything else as this is the only thing I have tried. I never even realized why it did so much for me until I started researching ADHD for my son and remembered my dr telling me that if adults could have ADHD, I would be a classic case.

BTW, bump just means that I posted to keep it at the top of the posts so someone with the answers would see it. It was beginning to get buried under new ones.

wellbutrin can give someone hallunations and i been on it since january 2004.

i started having hallunation and i finally told my psychriatrist and they kept telling me wait a couple  months and kept saying that and said that 3 or 4 times and i only go every 2 months and  finally i am only taking it 1 time a day 100 mg pill and so i am hoping to get off of that medicine soon.

I started on Wellbutrin 150 XL and am still on the same dosage. It was prescribed by my Primary Care doctor and worked OK with the Zoloft I already had been taking. The Concerta was added, and the Zoloft increased per recommendations of the psychiatrist once I got my diagnosis. I originally thought I had Adult ADD  is why I sought help from my doctor and was started on the Wellbutrin, turns out that I am really OCD with some of the ADD symptoms.

it is okay and i just sometimes are not in a good mood, but  it depends and taking one day at a time. my energy level is okay.,it is good .

one thing i hated was sweating and my socks were soak and my clothes were wet and i had a hard time in class because i was irrating and uncomfortable.

DeafJar38587.7440162037How's your energy level on Wellbutrin?

i am hoping soon i will be off the wellbutrin because all it does to me is make me halluniate and i am not sure what i should be on.

i also take ritalin and i am doing good on that because i have adhd.

Hi.  I'm just checking this board for the first time since Feb.  (I have a med. change.)   Anyway, I took Welbutrin XL from July through December last year.  It worked GREAT for my ADD symptoms, but it was horrible for my moods.  I had a lot of anxiety issues.  I was on 300mg.  I started on 150 and had to decrease to 150 before going completely off.

I've been on immediate release ritalin since Jan.  I love it.  I'm switching to Ritalin LA tomorrow.  We'll see how it works.

Been on Wellbutrin for 5 years for depression, never had any side effects (that I can notice) and it stopped my anxiety attacks.  Have taken it w/Adderall and Dexedrine and its fine. (again, as far as I can tell) I take 150mg. 2x a day. Didn't make me well but helped. [QUOTE=DeafJar]

I would think that if you are experiencing halucinations from the Wellbutrin your doctor would take you completely off of the medication. What you are experiencing is most likely a toxic reaction to the med. Your body is rejecting it.

Something that most people don't understand is that all of these SSRI and SNRI medications can cause severe side effects. Increase in suicudal tendencies, violent/homicidal behavior, worsened depression, and many other negatiove side effects. If you experience negative side effects from a psychotropic drug, you should go to your doctor and start weaning off of the medication while under the watch of a medical professional. If you tell your doctor that you are having negative side effects and your doctor suggests increasing the dosage, tell him/her "No, thank you" and find a new doctor, FAST!

These medications do good things for some people but not for all people. These medications can be fatal for some people.

I personally have tried several different medications to deal with depression and ADD. The only med I will take is Wellbutrin. It is the only med that doesn't cause negative side effects within my body. I do know of people who have taken their own lives after being presribed Wellbutrin.

If your doctor has prescribed both Wellbutrin and Adderall to you, all I can say is, "Good luck getting to sleep at night!". :0) They are both stimulant medications and both can cause insomnia. Adderall is nothing but speed. I tried it for a while and told my doctor that it made me feel like I was taking speed. He told me that it IS speed....

The best thing you can do for yourself is to take the time to research these medications on your own. Do not rely strictly on your doctor's advice. If you research these drugs on your own you will find much more information about them your doctor will ever give you.... The pharmaceutical companies don't want the general public to know about the potential dangers of these medications, therefore, they don't inform the doctors about all of the potential side effects of these meds. If the doctors don't know then they can't pass the info onto their patients.

For your own well being, PLEASE become an informed patient. Doctors are only human. They aren't perfect and some of them aren't any smarted than you or I!!

I just started back up on Wellbutrin after being off it for more than a year. I was on 150 mg for years but this time I have a different dr and she had me do 150 for 3 days and then 300 a day .

I had always benefited from it but never thought it did much for my focus. This time, I had gotten really bad so the difference was remarkable. The 300 mg has made a huge difference in both the way I feel and my focus. I still have times when focus isn't easy but I can drive and be aware of what is going on around me without having to make a concerted effort.

I have more energy also. I had gotten very depressed and that has lifted but I think I feel more anger than before. I was deadened to a lot due to the depression so I think I am just reacting to things I didn't deal with in the past. I am not quite as angry as when the Wellbutrin first kicked in.

I hope I covered everyone's questions.

I am on wellbutrin 225mg a day and adderall 20mg in the AM and 10 in PM. I am considering getting off the adderall though.  Like Johnnyboi said, I'm sick of the crashing.  I get really tired if I don't take it.  After a while you know what the latest time is that you can take it and be able to fall asleep.  I can sleep on both now.  I've been taking both for about 1 year.

I do like the wellbutrin. When I tried it alone I thought it gave me energy. If your worried about the starting dosage, I would just be safe and start low!
