ODD & Meds Help | ADHD Information

From what you wrote, I would make the assumption you meant to write OCD (Obsessive compulsive disorder)? As in, your daughter wants things to go her way? Correct me if I'm wrong.  Stimulants can make you more emotional, or at least it does for me.  I am much more vulnerable to break down and cry over something small, and I'm 18.  If it is in fact OCD, ask your doctor about Paxil, I know you might say but that's an anti-depressant.  I believe it's approved by the FDA in the treatment for OCD.  It is in my opinion extremely good for OCD, and my brother actually took it for his anger problems.  He did extremely well on it to where I was shocked to find out he did exactly what I asked of him without giving me any lip.  Due to your daughters age, she probably would take a much lower dosage of Paxil, however the drug company itself doesn't recommend people under 18 take it.  My brother is 15, and he did fine.

Anyone else have a child with ODD who is also on meds for ADHD?

What are you doing to help with ODD and is anything working?

Our daughter was just started on Straterra, then switched to concerta. The ODD is not really any better. I know its EXTREMELY hard to treat and improve, but had hoped I would see some benefit out of the meds by now for the ODD. I keep hearing it should make it noticeably better but not go away - so far notta.

I cant take the ODD anymore and shes been through numerous preschools and daycares - shes 6 1/2 and only been on meds for 6 weeks. She gets super bossy with kids and won't listen to adults, sometimes tantrums, now shes all emotional and cries at drop of hat.....is that from the Concerta? The hyperactivity is controlled now but the ODD....ugh!

HELP on what anyone else has tried.

Thanks,

Collette (momco)

I would recommend a good neuropsych eval!!!

I bet you are dealing with more than ADHD/ODD!  Stims are probably making her worse!

I did mean ODD - which is oppositional defiant disorder.

The stims are helping with the hyperactivitiy but shes an emotional misfit somtimes now..........we had done the psychologist thing for 8 months/2 evaluations prior to even being on meds. That psychologist wasn't convinced it was ADHD, but definitley said it was ODD. He didn't offer any solutions and just "was puzzled" so I went to her reg pediatrician.

For anyone that might want to think its BIPOLAR I invite you to discuss more.
