sniffy, you mentioned wanting to take him off meds.  You might want to come over to the "Alternative and Complementary" board.  You'll need a good long time to read it all, but I think you'll be glad you checked it out.  There's a wealth of information there regarding alternatives if this is the route you may consider at some point.  Here's a link: http://www.adhdnews.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=16&PN =0

HEY! Are you SPAMMING?

j/k  I think EVERYONE needs to read the alternative board!!

LOL, Tater.  As I posted that I was thinking to myself, "Everyone is going to start saying, 'Here she goes again with another link to the Alternative board.'" Hope all's well with you.  You can't fall asleep either??? LOL!  It's nearly 11:30 here, and I should be asleep!  I've gotten so little sleep this week, and for some reason, I can't fall asleep tonight.  Guess if I turned the darn laptop off and removed it from my lap I might get tired.  LOL!

my 9 yoa son has been on all kinds of meds in the last 3 years since he was diagn with adhd ...I think we have tried them all... everyone of them always ends in the same results...around dinner time when the meds wear off he gets very depressed. It is very sad to see him go through this and still try and put up with his behavior. He gets very hateful and this lasts for about an hour and a half then he fills bad for the way he had been behaving. Right now we have him on adderall xr 20mg. This is out 3rd month and once againg here we go with the depression.  My doctor has suggested that we start with some of the 1st meds he tried a few years ago. I am ready to take him off of everything but I am afraid he will not make it in school.  Has anyone had any luck with taking another dose of something in the evening to counteract this side affect?  I really hate to give him more meds but I don't think we have any other choice.  I have already tried the  stratterra thing at night along with metadate in the morning and also strattera by itself... strattera made him the moddiest I have ever seen him.

Have you tried Concerta?we have tried medadate ,2 types of concerta, adderall ,adderall xr,straterrra & ritalin....we have tried different doses of each ...combining stratterra with medadate and then straterra alone.  all have had the same effects ....extreme moodiness  in the a.m.s  & p.m.s....it seems just as soon as he gets use to taking the medicine the mood swings start.  These meds seems to make  him have the sympyoms of bipolar or depression.  When he doesn't take them he is happy and hyper but at least he is not wanting to cry all the time.  My doctor said that natural meds are just as dangerous as prescription ones and some even more so because they are not fda tested.  My concern with natural meds is how long is it going to take to work and will i have to go through 3 more years of testing different ones out.  My son goes to a very demanding private school, this is our first year there. I am sure the teacher would work with me but i don't want him to fall behind.  He repeated  kindergarten because we could not get him tested  at 5 yoa and the whole year he was in la la land. If i don't get this issue resolved the Doctor is going to have to put me and my husband on medication!!   Am i alone out there or has other people went through meds like this  with no success??
