Concerta works well for me in terms of lifting the brain fog, but
motivation and follow-through are my big issues. I'm very resistant to
certain tasks. I was hoping Strattera would help, but I don't know if this
is something that can be addressed with any medication.
I was hoping the Adderall might help me with the above mentioned problems.....so far the Stratterra has not been very helpful....
Recently diagnosed also.....tried Strattera....20 mg for a week, then up to 40 mg....took 40 mg for about 10 days before I went back to the doc.
I felt no positive impact from Strattera. After the dosage was increased, I became more and more depressed as each day passed. I also had a very disrupted sleep pattern.....waking up about 4-5 times a night with difficulty falling back to sleep.
Now I'm on Ritalin LA. The first day, for about an hour, I felt wonderfully awake...for about 2 hours. Since then, nothing, even tho I've increased the dose from 10mg to 20mg.
I'm not sure what to do next....any suggestions?
I have been on strattera for nearly 2 years and I want off. Sure it helped me at first, it untangled numbers making math easy and mundane stuff easier (still not so easy) BUT, and this is a big BUT I feel like crap when I forget to take it. My functioning when I forget my meds is so awful that I am almost afraid to drive. I am trying to ween myself off of them. I don't want to go to the DR anymore unless I decide to try stimulants. Can a general family DR give you stimulants???Hubby has been on the full 12o mgs of Straterra about 2 wks now. He is having terrible hot flashes/sweating, low appetite, genrerally feeling bad, and talks all night long in his sleep. Called the dr and he said taper off it, and maybe we'll try cymbalta. We are not up for playing med roulette, and he has had trouble with other antideps. Why would he treat ADD with an antidep?Stratterra has helped me somewhat , but not to the point I was hoping for. I'm going to ask my DR if she will put me on Adderal and stratterra.Well, I just got back from the Dr, and have been diagnosed with ADD. What do you guys think of Strattera? The Dr said I'd start out on that, and then if the problems aren't resolved, we'd try something else.I would love to hear the responses to this, because my hubby started on Straterra a few weeks ago.Just today he reached the full dose of 120mgs. And so far, the only difference I can see is he is sweating a lot, and eating less. He may even seem MORE distractable and forgetful than usual. Or maybe that's me, being more annoyed with him. What does this mean? The Dr said "call me after he's been on the 120mg for a month or so" . When hubby said how will I know if it's working he said 'oh, you'll know". OK all you Straterra users, let's hear your story...
I have not heard or tried any medicine that will do much for forgetfulness etc. The meds do help me with some of the impulsiveness, and getting things done, but many of the symptoms are just gonna be there. They don't work by themselves, you still have to find some discipline. By no means are there any miracle cures.

Hi lonnieh....Straterra can take up to 6 weeks before full effecfts are seen as its a blood level medication and unlike stimulant medications, its the only ADHD medication that is weight based. If weight fluctuates adjustments may have to be made. Dosaging of stimulant medication is based on the metobolic rate of absorbtion, not weight so its all very individual. Many individuals go through a trial of meds before one is found that produces maximum benefit and minimal side effects for the individual. Good luck.
