Men. Painful ejaculation w/ Strattera | ADHD Information
Another embarassing but important question from ja_add2004.
This was a subject that came up from the "Strattera Side Effects" post. I want to know if their are other men who have had this type of side effect. Please don't be embarrassed. I think this is important for people to know. Below are some excerpts from my post in "Strattera Side Effects". Thanks.

....Urinary urgency following sex, only to not be able to generate ANY flow for up to 30 minutes afterward.
The final urinary/genital experience that was the last straw for me.... PAINFUL ejaculation! You read that right! I thought my little Jimmy was about to explode! Scared the hell out of me. At first it felt like it was one of the most intense orgasms that I had ever experienced. However, the spasming and penial constriction continued and then became painful. Awfully painful. I think my wife was proud of herself at first due to the expression on my face. Until I said "Ooww, what the hell is that!", she realized something was wrong. I tell you, it was a very very disturbing feeling. It was not at all similar to effects of any urinary tract infection or STD, where you would usually feel burning while urinating. This was altogether different! It was a dull constricting pain. Imagine a bad cramp in your calf after pulling it in some sporting event. Then apply that cramp on you erected penis. Get the idea?
Not knowing if this was related to the Strattera I had recently started taking, I had sex one more time days later. Same result. I quit taking the med after that.
....If I had any money or any clout, I would call for an investigation on Strattera and an investigation on the validity of their case study. This medication has been such a huge failure in the general population, I honestly wonder how it was ever approved for adult ADD treatment and why some of these side affects were not disclosed.

I am so glad to find out that I'm not the only one! I actually found the forum because of this. I've been searching the web to see if anyone else was having similar symptoms.
I'm 26 years old and I'm currently taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg, Zoloft 50mg, and Strattera 80mg. I started taking the Strattera by taking 40mg for a few days, then 60mg for two weeks, and now I've been on 80mg for a little more than 2 weeks.
I had been on Zoloft 100mg for over a year, but a new doctor dropped me down to 50mg and put me on the Strattera and Wellbutrin XL all at the same time so I can't be positive which medication is causing my symptoms.
All I know is that before I started taking the Wellbutrin and Strattera I had a very strong libido. I used to wake up with a hard-on every morning and I'd get them spontaneously 4-5 times during a normal day at work (or at the slightest hint of any 'stimulus'). And lately, things have been looking significantly smaller than usual down there.
Now I haven't had a hard-on in two weeks. The other night, with a little effort, I was able to get a 'semi'...just enough to finally get off. But then, when I went I had this terrible pain that felt like someone had kicked me in the groin and had my prostate in a vise. After several seconds the pain gradually went away. Naturally I was very concerned! This obviously isn't normal. I haven't yet been to see my doctor about this, but I'm getting an appointment soon.
I think I'm even more worried than I would be otherwise since the pain seemed to concentrate in what felt like the area of my prostate.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any idea what's causing it or what the long-term affects might be?

ya, i too have experienced the painful ejaculations with strattera as well as other sexual dysfunction. these symptoms do tend to dissipate somewhat after you are on the meds for a while but you never seem to be normal again. even after you stop. this certainly is most disturbing but thought you might like to know as i took strattera for nearly nine months and have me off the meds for 4 months and ED still persists, sometimes have painful ejaculation and my libido is near non existant. nich huh. well sleep tight.
I could not even reach an ejaculation when I was on Strattera.... Talk about painful.
ZORG38651.4812037037 Read your post with much interest.I am 49 years old and was diagnosed with ADD two years ago. From the beginning I have been taking 300mg of Wellbutrin Xl and have titrated up to 140mg of Strattera.
Although the symptoms have improved somewhat, I deal with urinary urgency, dull discomfort when ejaculating and a suppressed ejaculation response. As far as quality of erection, I have found Levitra to be extremely useful for my ED. On the flip side, the two meds I am taking for ADD, have given me a new life. I have accomplished so much, personally, during the last two years. I should be the ADD poster man.
My doctor told me that most of the problems, which I have stated above, were self- inflicted or" in my mind". Bull Sh-t! I spoke to a Lilly representative who said that she has not had feedback from her customers complaining of the urinary/sexual problems to any great extent. The drug's package insert does allude to some small % of sexual/urinary dysfunction. During these drug studies, patients do not mention the problems, unless specific questions are asked to elicit their honest feedback.
I am hesitant to make any changes in my therapy, given the progress I have made.
