steve irwin died today | ADHD Information

Peita, I loved your Steve too. I think all of the U.S. are stunned and heartbroken over this. My sis, my Mom and I have talked about nothing else all day. WE LOVED HIM!!! A special just came on the animal planet on Steve's life and his parents are on there - there is also old footage of interveiws with him.  We are on Pacific time, I am going to catch it!!  I think his parents did a good job

He copped a lot of sh*t from his fellow Aussies at times.

There were write ups in the papers that whilst we liked his enthusiasm and him for himself, the negative Aussies said the American's only liked him because he was an easy target to make fun of. They said the American's laughed at him, not with him.

It's nice to see that wasn't the case at all.

Our media can be really harsh and just plain rude about you guys I'm finding out.

I'm glad to have meet you all to set the record straight.

I'm starting to think all media should be banned!!!!!!

You all know that he only kept 5% of his earnings and gave the rest to his zoo and other animal non-profits.
Sounds like you media is the same as ours - they like to keep stupid stuff going sometimes.  I heard that same thing ogram did - that a large portion of his earnings from his shows went to conservationism!!!!  Everybody has their own way of doing things and he got his message across.

Weren't his parents also conservationists?  I loved steve - he was always happy and excited.  I think people just get freaked out when someone is so passionate!!!

I hope his wife keeps up the work he has done and teaches their kids the same thing!!!

He was also ADHD!  i keep reading more and more and finding out what all he stood for!  he is/was an icon and some one for us to look up to.

So sad. My hearth is with his family.

I didnt know whom you are talking about, yesterday. It strikes me when I saw news. I loved his show. Remember one when he rescued small snake from forest fire...he was so sad about her! He lived his life too fast I beleive.

I was thinking the same as ogram.......post a nice photo of him.

Here's a sweet family shot:

And Ogram, this one is in memory of our favorite episode (the one where he rescued the baby kangaroo/joey.  His love for animals was so precious.

Mikey cried, he & corey-max loved watching his shoes,

Mikey asked is he gonna come back to make more shows??

I said "no love, when you die thats it" Poor thing

Great guy and great character.  My kids and I have a lot of his videos and after we watched one I would wrestle the dogs and imitate steve's accent and pretend I was wrestling a wild croc!!!!

In my eyes he is up there with the old guy that used to do Wild Kingdom - one of only 2 shows we ever got to watch when I was growing up!!!  I was facinated with Wild Kingdom reruns as a kid - I think the originals were way before my time!!!

My oldest daughter did not believe me when I told her what happened.

thanks leigh!  i was looking for one, the only one i could find is small:

What a great picture.

For anyone interested, Animal Planet is running a great one hour "Crocodile Hunter" right now (started at 6:00 EST).  It's kind of like a documentary on Steve's life with childhood stories from his father.  We're on Eastern time here, so you may be able to catch it all if you're in another time zone to the west of us.

Also, Larry King is rerunning his last interview with Steve tonight.  I remember this interview, and it was sooooo good.

Been depressed about this all day. Swimming around stingrays is nothing new. Family scubadived in mexico in december. Eagle rays there, largest kind. Barbs 16 inches long can go through armor. They usually stay away from you.         &n bsp;

He was ADHD? Didn't know that. Thought he may have had hyperthymia.

As you can imagine our T.V and radio have been running constant stories. I was gobsmacked

Amelia's favourite DVD is A Wiggley Safari with Steve at Australia Zoo.

We love Steve Irwin, his love of life, his love for his family and his passion for animals.

He was only 44.

The barb of the stingray pierced his heart.

We just heard the news this morning, (we did not watch the news all weekend) and I cannot express our sadness.  We were big fans of him and we loved the CrocHunter Diaries about what goes on at his zoo.  We also named our dog Bindi after Steves daughter.  I will miss his passion for animals.  He would make me feel like even I should love a snake or a crocodile.  I hope his family will carry on his legacy.

Rest in peace Steve.  You will be missed!

Yes, he ABSOLUTELY was loved over here.  Animal Planet had a marthon of his shows last night, and I watched a couple of hours of them.  His interview with Larry King was broadcast, again, and CNN did a thirty-minute segment on him.  We loved him, and it saddens me to think that Ausies thought we didn't, that we were making fun of him.  It is true that we like to imitate the Ausie accent, and he had a heavy one, but there also are a lot of jokes over here about the fact that all a guy has to do is talk with an Ausie accent, and he can get any girl he wants .  We love the accent and that's why we imitate it.  i feel so bad about this.......i loved watching him!  he was an all around great guy!

First thing this morning, and I'm back reading up on it.  I don't even really have the time to be doing this now, but my kids are having breakfast, so I'm sneaking a couple of minutes.  This story was on AOL today.  It's more information about his death and a little hard to read.  I wonder how his wife and kids are.

Peita, I don't think American's made fun of Steve in a bad way.  All I remember is people kind of copying his accent and funny enthusiasm.  The strong Austrailian accent is so interesting to Americans.  Add that to a colorful, funny personality and a highly unique interest that many consider "bizarre," it just gave a lot of people the desire to impersonate him.  I think it was flattering!  All you had to do was hear someone put on that accent and talk in an animated way about something, and you'd almost immediately know they were doing a Crocodile Hunter impersonation.  Believe me.  He was well respected and loved.  People may have considered him a little bit crazy, but he really was loved over here.

Isn't it funny, we think our accent is really subtle

Peita, LDdc is right. Our media is no different from yours.....they love to take anything negative and run with it.

The special on animal planet tonight was pretty cool - I learned a lot more about his family and life.  I did not realize his wife was raised an hour north of where I live!!!

He was so adhd - he even said in one interview how he had a hard time sitting still!!!  Sad situation - the news said the accident occured while he was filming for a show.

I know this is wrong....but I have to wonder if his last word was "Crikey!!!"

couldnt help myself

LMAO, i wonder if they will ever "leak" out the footage of the dive??  you know that kind of stuff has a way of leaking out!

I heard that if he wouldn't have pulled it out, he might have lived!  How sad is that.  I've heard that on 2 differents news stations today.  the barb causes more damage going out than going in.

I keep checking the news for more on the story.  It's still so unreal, isn't it?

Something I always loved about him was how he would hold an animal, something that wasn't particularly attractive (a crocodile, a snake, a giant spider for example), and he'd look at it and talk to it and call it "sweetheart" and say things like, "Aren't you beautiful, darlin'."

See.....it's things like that which stick out in my memory......his gentleness and sweet words and how he saw the beauty in the face of something others would run from.  I imagine there will be a televised tribute to Steve, and it will be a huge tear-jerker.
NOW stop that!!!  you made me cry!  my son was about a year old and that is all we watched, and we did that for about 2 years.  he was always in awe over how steve would pick up the snakes out of the road and talk to them then put them either in the bushes or in a bag to take to HIS zoo.  My favorite was the one when he and his wife stopped and picked up a little joey.  it's mom had been ran over and killed.  he and his wife acted like that joey was their babies.  he took his shirt off and wrapped it up in it.  Then my next fav was when he was taking his wife to the dr for he ultra sound of their first baby.  he was so excited!!  he said that he was more excited than his wife.  He always looked at Terry with big puppy dog eyes and had NO problems expressing his love to her, even on international tv.  he hugged and kissed on his family and showed the hole world that having a wife and children was the best thing he could have ever been blessed with.  It's just sad!  Turn on the tv and it's full of funny shows about divorce, unhappy marriages and single parents.  He was on tv with his family and took pride in it.  It's just sad.

On fox news, they said on a news blog some one went on there and put lol over and over and over and over.  they of course deleted it, but that is just maddening that some one would take the opportunity to joke or be mean about it.

YES HE WAS QUITE A CHARACTER AND AFTER ALL YOU COULD GO OUT TOMORROW AND GET IT BY A BUS,IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU TAKE RISKS OR NOT,

Oh my gosh.......I SO remember that episode where Steve and his wife found the little joey after it's mother had been killed.  I remember the sadness that Steve clearly felt and the way he and his wife treated it with such love and compassion.  It really said it all about the kind of person Steve was.  What an amazing guy.  I just can't get my mind around the fact that he's gone......and from such a freak accident.

I too was shocked to see it all over the intronet and always said the guy was nuts  for I would never want to mess with snakes or wildlife.  It is sad and I feel for his family he was so young.  His wife does sort of the same thing doesn't she if I recall?  I hope now she considers a new career.I was shocked to see that on the news this morning, but not terribly shocked. He did do some dangerous stuff most wouldn't even try.  I feel most sad for his young children. Oh my gosh!  I haven't had the TV on today and I'm in shock!  I can't tell you how heartbroken I am.  Steve's show was the one show Josh and I always enjoy watching.  I don't even want to tell him.  He was such a wonderful and loving man, oh his poor family.  I don't even have the words to express my sadness for them.  What a shock!

How terrible - but I am with those that said he had a passion for what he did and it is hardest on the people left behind!!!  If someone dies - it is alwys a bad thing.  BUT, he died doing what he had a passion for and a love for - we should all be able to go that way!!!!

And what a legacy he has left behind!!!  I always love nature shows, but Steve made everybody like nature shows and our environment!!!  More people need to have a passion for our natural world before parts of it dissapear forever.

I just told my Mom. She is heartbroken. She loved him!!! One of her favorite shows to watch.
I was coming here today to put up a link to the story.  I'm so sad about this.  I think of an Oprah interview I once saw with him and how he was so open and sweet about how much he loved his wife and daughter (baby #2 was not yet born).  I was just so struck by the way he gushed over his family and the things he said.

I wouldn't say he asked for this, though.  MANY people go to these fancy resorts and swim with stingrays.  It's very common.  This has been called a "freak accident."  If he had been killed by a crocodile, I wouldn't have been terribly shocked (though he was an expert at handling them).   His wife was always extremely supportive of what he did.  She was also involved in many activities none of us would even consider.  Their daughter is also, naturally, an adventure lover.  I can't imagine what this is doing to them right now.  He was so kind and funny and full of life.
I wouldn't say he "asked" for this either.  He was raised up doing this.  His parents both were environmentalist. My son and I never missed a show and could not get enough re-runs.  He will be missed by millions all over the world.

my 7 yr old son cried this morning  when I turned on the  news and  heard about it..I was shocked and my daughter nearly devestated. He was her hero.

His show was one of our favorites where the whole family would watch together and enjoy.
I told my son about this this morning and he said, "Now THAT'S a guy who lived his life to the fullest."  Well said, I think! It's such a shame. You could tell that his passion for what he was doing was so real...it was not an act. I've always liked him better than the wannabes who came along after trying to act like him.yeah, his children can watch all the videos in the world of him, but they will never really know what it is like to have him there growing up.  His daughter cannot take comfort in a picture of him when he's not there to walk her down the isle and give her away.  that moment is already lost for her.  I really feel bad for his family, but he is one of the "Great Men" that will live on for every in every life he touched, animals and people.Yes, I was really sad when I found out this morning.  But you are right, he asked for it and his family is suffering for it.  My kids and I really enjoyed his shows. He loved adventure and life and his family. He died doing what he loved. the news are in that steve irwin died today,he got stung in the chest by a stingray.that guy was an accident waiting to happen.it is a shame for his family thought.

I agree. He did die doing what he loved and I'm sure his family expected something like this could happen. However, I'm sure they hoped it never would and I'm so sad for them.

I really think Steve made Australia famous and I send my condolences to our Aussie friends. American's loved your Steve. I know I'll miss him, he had a wonderful zest for life.

The news is saying the way he died was a freak accident, that the stingray managed to sting him in such a way that the barb went under his ribs and into his heart.  How sad!

Crikey!!!  I lOVED STEVE!!!

He was one of my favourite Discovery chanel shows.  And Favourite ADHD personality as well.  Good person, good hubby, good dad, CUTE.

They should make this a world wide observation memorial day for "Steve Irwin" to honor his love for family, love for animals and love of the environment!  Not a "holiday", but just a day to remember a simple man with the love that the world looked up to.
my 7 yr old son cried this morning  when I turned on the  news and  heard about it..
Thats so sad. I really think this has shocked almost every member of most families all over the world. He had a audience that not many people can claim from the little tiny tot to the elderly, like my Mom.

LOL! Couldn 't have put it better! LOL! Have you seen the memorial for him on Animal Planet?  What an amazing little girl he has!  If you haven't seen it and they rerun it, watch it!  It's worth it just to see his daughter Bindi read her tribute to her daddy.  She's this little bitty thing, and she stood on the stage with complete self confidence and read a tribute she had written.  Wow!  What a cutie! He was a wonderful father from what I have read!  This world could use some more parents that care half as much as he did.Nope.  Not me, but I'm going to check out her website.  I didn't know there was one.hey lillian i have to ask... i was on the bindi irwin forum today and the newest member was lilllian.... was it you? bindi is an amazing little girl... she was so brave speaking last night.. she broke my heart...
