Dr. in Dallas | ADHD Information

Dr. Scott Woods was recommended to us by our peditrician Dr. Jeffrey Berkowitz. I'm sure he is awesome as I trust my son's life with Dr. B.  He has been his pedi since birth and is very good. Unfortunately at the time he didn't accept my insurance.  He was out of network.  We are with Dr. Arnold Mech instead and have been pleased with his practice and handling of our son.  See previous post.

Thanks for the recommendation.  Where in Plano is Dr. Scott Woods?  Plano is pretty far for us but not too bad if it is on the side closer to Dallas.  Is he a Psychiatrist?  Did he do any kind of testing with your son?  Do you see him at every visit?  Have you ever taken your child to a neurospych in Dallas?  I would really like to have him tested in several areas to see what's going on in that little head of his.   I just checked on him.....he's still awake......the poor kid just can't sleep (even with the new meds the candy man nurse practioner prescribed him!)

Hello!  I would try going to a neurologist.  They are excellent at spending time with you to describe, what your childs brain is doing, and give you all sort of options for this. I spent over 2 hours at my son's first appointment. Since then we see only him, not any one else in his practice, and we are their for always 30-40 min.

I'm going to toss in another suggestion: a neuropsychologist.  They can do the testing needed and will spend plenty of time explaining the results.

How can a nurse practitioner be of any use in a child psychiatrist's office?  I thought a lot depended on the relationship between the child and the doc.  I had a orthopedic doc who was never there and I always had to see the nurse practitioner.  I got so fed up at the last appt that I didn't pay my co-pay.  I said if I'd gotten to see the doc, I would have paid for the doc.  I'm not paying doctor prices for nurse practioner training.

Does anyone here live in or near Dallas, TX?  I have not been happy with my son't child psychiatrist and would like to find a new one for him.  I have only seen the Dr. one time and all of the other visits have been with his nurse practitioners.  I would love to find a Dr. that takes the time to know your child and evaluate your child's behaviors.

Thanks!  Stacey

I am not in Dallas, though I am close in Houston.  My suggestion is to call the local chapter of CHADD and ask for recommendations.  Tell them exactly what you are looking for.  I completely support your quest.  I wish more ADHD kids had psychiatrists who did therapy, along with dispensing of meds.  The "candy man" psychiatrist DRIVES ME MADDDDD!

you could call my son's neuropsychologist's office in Houston.  I know they have some drs in Dallas they refer to.  here's the # 713.772.4600.  They hung the moon for my family!  Our dr took Damon off all his meds and then put him on one and he is GREAT!!!!!!   http://www.dallasneurosurgical.com/links.html  hope this helps.

Who do you use lillian?

ours does!  but he keeps it brief due to the fact that Damon is only 8.  He is the first that has sat with him and just talked with him and not TO him.  He listens to every thing Damon says.  In fact, before we went into the room, he asked my dh and I NOT to say any thing until he address us.  He just wants to talk to Damon.  And he sits right in front of him so Damon cannot look at us.  He does this every time for about 30 minutes.  The first visit was about 2 hours long.  Then the second was all the testing and then sat with us for about 1 and a half hours just explaining every thing to us in DETAIL and used the normal communication instead of all the page long names and words.  Man, he is great!

Doctor  Scott Woods.  He is in Plano .  He has been very good to our son Michael.

 His number is 972-403-3440

I have his number memorized !!  Can you believe it?   I swear I have call more than a hundred times and I allways get an answer the same day!

we have a doctor we see in Plano close to Frisco... he was very thourough (sp) with our son... he believes in the whole picture....we did a QEEG, 6 hour glucose tolerance test, and worked with a nutritionist that works out of his office.  He also believes in therapy etc...

If you are interested in his name I'd be happy to share.  We don't see him every month but we do work with one of his Physcian Assistants.  She is awesome and does great follow-up with us every month.
