I'm not looking to lose which is why I'm asking. Is it really all that common of a side effect on these meds or does it just happen to a small population? I'm nervous to begin taking this stuff which I have a feeling my dr. is on the verge of prescribing me.
Thanks.
When I Started Strattera I lost 35 pounds in 2 months. I'll admit I took advantage of the drug in the sense of diet control. Once I was down to the weight I wanted to be at I increased my food intake and have maintained weight pretty well. Now that I am on Concerta I get the same effects of it so I still need to make sure I keep eating. You just gotta remember to eat, and when you eat, eat a healthy amount. Its easy to go all day for me without any food but I know its not healthy for me so I just make sure I don't skip any meals.
**Caution** don't let your self loose weight too fast if weight loss is your goal (this is directed toward everybody.) Once I did, I was having some side effects from it. The most radical side effect was blacking out. I never did black out but every time I would exercise I would get light headed and I could see my vision narrow down to just a little dot in front of me. There was several times when I thought I was going out but fought threw it. now that I am maintaining a steady weight my body as caught up with it and I am fine now
-eat healthy
Stangcotic38969.420775463i lost 9 pounds in 9 weeks, nothing major.I have lost around 7 kilos (15 lbs) in the last 5 weeks, and am continuing to lose weight at the rate of a little over 1 kilo (2.2 lbs) every week.
If i lose much more i will have to consider eating more to try and offset it. I currently weigh 55kg (120 lbs).
So long as you make sure you're eating enough, you won't have problems with losing weight (simply increase your caloric intake, etc if need be). Meds will affect every individual differently, so there's really no way of predicting how they will affect you. Thanks for the posts
I guess I want to know if the people who HAD WEIGHT TO LOSE were the ones that lost weight or if those that lost weight were thin already. I'm pretty thin already and don't want to lose - I'm wondering if those that need to lose a few pounds are the ones that experience weight loss and not those people who are thin already. Am I making sense??
ellej: This is so your decision--not your doctor's, right? I think unless you're out of options & are desperate you don't want to start meds because your doctor's rx-ing them for you. When I started Adderall last year, I lost way too much weight, but now that my body's accustomed to it, I stay at just above 1OOlbs--I'm 5'3". I don't like anyone noticing anything about my body so I'm always ready to pour on whatever pounds I can. I hate when people go "oh, you're so skinny" & "how do you stay so tiny?"--they've never seen me with my clothes off--gross!!!
ellej: I've never been overweight in my life. I've been on Adderall for 3 months and lost about 7 pounds...I'm down to about 148 (I'm 6 feet tall). So, I'm working at not losing more weight...... Adderall just kills my appetite, but I'm able to eat, whenever if finally get around to it...now it's more like making a concerted effort to eat well and eat a lot while before it was "feeding the hunger"!
Anyone out there with good advice on healthy, low fat/low cholesterol foods to keep the weight on??!!
I have lost about 30 lbs since beginning Adderall XR in April. Fortunately, I needed to lose the weight, so I am not concerned at all. My daughter is 9, and takes it, and she only weighs about 62 lbs. She was thin to start with, and we have a very hard time keeping the weight on her. The weight loss thing for me is hard. I am actually working on losing weight after having had my son (okay, so he is 2 1/2, but still
For what it's worth, I haven't lost any weight.
I could, probably. But I am more aware of my hunger, and of my cravings. And I am better able to get it together to eat a meal and I am definitely hungry when I don't eat.
It used to be that my eating was connected to a thought or an idea that I wanted to eat--not to feeling hungry.
The way my ADD brain worked seems to have affected so many areas of my life.
