PMS -Help! | ADHD Information

Okay ladies I need some help.  I am having the worst PMS of my life.  My whole body hurts. My breasts are swollen,  Tired, irritable, I want to scream, cry, die.  Can Stimulants make PMS worse? I have only been on stimulants for about 2 months.   What can I do?  I can barely work.   I am miserable. That sucks - concerta never affected mine, that I am aware of!!!!  Maybe it is meopause??  Take some type of iboprofen or something!!! Luvmykids, I am perimenopausal, and I did not realize that I had ADD until I reached this stage.  My doctor said that the horomonal changes that occur at this time can cause the ADD symptoms to worsen.  You are right, it definitely worsens the PMS, also.  It would stand to reason that it might possibly interfere with the ADHD meds also.steppingstone, I guess the symptoms of ADHD are worse during perrimenapause because while I'm not ADHD, as a result of being perrimenapausal, I suffer from short term memory loss, short attention span, extreme anxiety at times and bouts of depression and these are some of the classic symptoms of ADHD as well so it makes sense that those with ADHD who are also perimenapausal have more intensity in terms of the symptoms.i agree with steppingstone.  my adderall xr doesn't really affect my pms.....i always have it bad, but have noticed the adderall xr doesn't work as well when I have PMS.

PMS stinks and I wish there were a solution.  But, you're not alone!  Unless you're a woman, no one understands the innter turmoil we go through when we get PMS!!!!
teacher2006.........this is not uncommon for a woman who is perimenopausal. Its the time before woman reach menapause. At this time there are hallmark changes in estrogen and progesterone which would account for such intensity with regard to pms symptoms. I have personally experienced this and my pms is so bad that my husband is afraid to be around me lol However, I dont know this to be the case for you but I'm just putting it out there as one of the reasons some women start to experience more intensity in pms symptoms. I have never heard that this could be related to ADHD meds but perhaps you should speak to your gyn about how to alleviate the symptoms.Read Suzanne Sommers new book "Ageless" . I did test and had no progesterone. Was estrogen dominate. NATURAL progesterone has worked wonders. Be sure to work with a doctor to get the right amount.

I ordered some Chasteberry and bought some over the counter perimenapause  stuff with lots of b vitamins.  Today I got some primrose oil.  I already take fish oil.  If all this does not work I'll try the proesterone cream.  I crave sugar all the time and I know that does not help so I am trying to cut back.  It has been ten days since the week from hell and I feel fine now.

I have always had bad pms.  I don't think that my taking Adderall XR makes it worse.  However, I do notice that the medications do not seem to be nearly as effective during this time.  My doctor has prescribed Wellbutrin to me to help with this, and it seems to help somewhat.[QUOTE=teacher2006]

Try Stevia sugar substitute. It helps decrease sugar cravings; it's better for your health because it's a natural source and it's good for your teeth.

I have pretty bad pms too. I'm so irritable and can get pretty angry over nothing. Usually the day of my period, I'm the extreme opposite.

hey moya, please do not try to solicit your products on this webpage...thanks. Okay it has been one month since my post.  I have no pms symptoms.  I don't  know if the products are working or if I am irregular and I am going to get whammed.  Gleactic, I got the book Ageless.  (Sams Club, 14.99)  I am very interested in the bioidenticals.  I made an appointment and go December 8. Thanks for telling me about the book and to everyone else too.  I  will try the stevia too.  Oh yeah sugar cravings are better but not gone.

man, i know what pms feels like, i dread that time of the month cuz i go completely bazurko during that time. i already have a problem with low frustration tolerance and having angry outburst at small things, add pms to that, its a nightmare.  i think that hormones defenitly play a role in symptoms for women with adhd.

Maybe ask you doc about PMDD (Post mentsral dismorphic disorder)

I almost took my own life during a ppre menstral EPISODE.  I was put on Prozac and it did seem to help.  My was more mental disorientation though.

I have been on and off Stimulants and I didn't notice that they were responsible for the mood swings I was having.

My advise is to give yourself a break if possible during the hardest days.  Get to know your cycle.  Keep track and plan to be miserable.  I had my kids visiting friends and my husband leaving the house during the hard days.  Luckily that only last 2 or 3 days a month.

Good luck and Keep Looking for your answer.

KLUMP

I am feeling a little better today.  I started on some herbs that are suppose to help and I am going to start excerising some more.  I am also going to watch my diet.  I never want to to through that again.

Thanks for the support LCdc and Ms Klump.  Any other ideas out there?

Natural progesterone cream helped me.
And mega B vitamins. Thanks world, I have been considering progesterone cream... I too can get a bit crazy at that time of the month, and I have noticed I feel better since I started taking evening primrose oil (omega 6) and fish oils (omega3). So you too could try it?What is lap surgery?

Let me tell ya....

I suffered with severe PMS for years.  It wasn't until I had lap surgery that we realized the culprit.  Two years after that first surgery, I had a total hysterectomy.  It was urgently and medically necessary.  No herb or medication helped me with the PMS.

Perhaps there is an underlying condition?  Have you discussed this with your Gyn?

Feel better....

Hi!

What herbs are you trying? I supposedly am entering perimenopause (I'm 45) although my cycles are still unchanged. But my PMS symptoms are terrible and I have two small wonderful daughters who don't need this monster of a mommy during those times. I also take Adderall but the only time it worsens the symptoms, is IF I take it during my PMS! I ain't a nice momma at all. Therefore, I avoid taking it that week and try to remain mellow... Difficult at best.
