Strattera and Abdominal/Testicular Pain | ADHD Information

Share

I've been trying strattera again, on a low dose, and I'm getting horrible debilitating abdominal and testicular pain.  I got it when I used it last time too.  Unfortunately it works REALLY well for me when combined with my adderall.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Are there any solutions?  I'm wondering if the pain is from constipation.  It's hard to say.  Any feedback is welcome!

I got the same thing early last year.  I thought I had a testicular torsion or hernia the pain was that agonizing.  My doc sent me in for ultrasound and other tests and determined I had a small hernia but not one that could cause all the pain.

It turned out I have IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  It happens with amphetamines sometimes due to its constriction of the smooth muscles (blood vessels, intestines, etc.).  I was given at first zelnorm which was WAY too harsh.  Then I switched to dicetel which did the trick fast.  It's great because it has zero side effects and is dirt cheap.

Do mention the possibility of IBS to your doc.  Get the other possibilities ruled out though as they could cause a great difficulty if that's what it is.

I think you'll find dicetel will do the trick.  Did for me for sure.

It makes sense - the intestines wind down into the pelvis and the IBS traps air at the corners - right where the blood and nerves to the testes are.  It  felt so very much like cutting off the blood to them that it was agony.

Rest assured as well that it's very safe - I did a lot of research and there is no contraindications.  When's the last time you saw something other than water that wasn't conflicting with something else?

FINALLY AN ANSWER!

Thank you! I was diagnosed with IBS many years ago, but things got better
once I became a vegetarian, and I really haven't had problems since. I
almost went to the hospital on several occasions while taking strattera
because the pain was so debilitating, but the drug worked so well (this was
before I had tried stimulants. And it works even better in combination with
stimulants for me) that I refused to stop taking it. Finally it just got to be
too much to handle.

I've left a message with my doctor, and hopefully she can leave me with a
prescription to pick up. Thanks a lot for the help!
