I just had a thought...since CIB doesnt have that weid powdery vitamin taste (it actually tastes good!)..maybe it can be sneaked into other things....like maybe the french vanilla CIB in hot oatmeal or rice pudding, or the chocolate CIB in some hot chocolate or chocolate pudding. ooooh...the possibilites are endless!
I put the vanilla in Ryans chocolate milk. I add 1/2 the vanilla packet and 3 scoops of nestles chocolate powder!
There are reciepes on the CIB website...just change the low fat milk to whole milk since most of them call for low fat!
jacks889739507.3477314815If you mix slimfast with whole milk, and eat regular meals you will actually gain weight. I discovered this during a failed slimfast diet....lol
MIL is a dietician, and she highly recommends it for nursing home patiets and the elderly who cannot afford ensure. Tonite we mixed 2 scoops slimfast, 1 Cup whole milk, 1/2 Cup frozen blueberries and blended, kids loved it.
After I asked what it was, no sooner did I click post and it clicked....oh...CIB....I get it.....oh dear, HA!One thing about Slimfast- unlike CIB or Ensure- it is high in fiber. So the calories aren't going to have the same impact as in CIB. I am not sure how to say it- but the high fiber content sort of diminishes some of the caloric value. It is really nutritious though so as a supplement to meals I think it is still a good idea.

hhhmmmmm.....that kinda makes sense. I know when people are on the low carb diet, in addition to looking at how many carbs something has..they also look at the fiber content because the fiber cancels out some of the carbs. I guess its the same concept with the calories.
yES- IN SOME LOW CARB OR LOW gLYC.iNDEX DIETS- fiber is a bonus because calories from fiber have little effect on blood sugar.
In Weight Watchers (more of a low fat/low calorie) diet- You calculate how much calories/fat/fiber a serving of food has to determine its point value. (you can only eat X points per day, so the lower the point value the better for weight loss) Calories and fat increase the food's point value- but fiber grams reduce the point value.
I am not saying not to use Slim Fast- just that CIB would probably help more with weight gain. They both are very nutritious though.
No question, adding nutritious calories to your child's diet will help with weight gain- I am just saying, with the high fiber content it will not be as effective for weight gain as a similar supplement that is not loaded with fiber.
We use SLim fast, it is the same thing as CIB, but cheaper. We do 1 scoop slimfast, 1 scoop chocolate ice crea, 1 cup whole milk, maybe a few chunks of ice. Blend, it is actually really good.I do 2 packets chocolate CIB, whole milk and Breyers fudge twirl ice cream (2 kids).
Sometimes we do "smoothies" with vanilla CIB, whole milk or vanilla yogurt, a banana and strawberries.
Betty, I want your mochaccino one! Not really lookin' to ADD any weight for me though !!
Most of us here in the forum use Canation Instant Breakfast for our kids because they dont eat much due to the adhd meds. I thought it would be fun for us to share our CIB recipes. I'll start with a few:
Orange Dream: 1 packet of french vanilla CIB, a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, 1/2 cup of whole milk, 1 teaspoon (or more, depending how much orange taste you want) of 100% frozen concentrated orange juice. Blend and enjoy!
This following one is my son's favorite. I give it to him as a snack while I cook dinner to help with the "rebound" since it has some caffeine in it. I call it:
Mochaccino: 1 packet of chocolate CIB, 1/2 cup of whole milk, 1 big scoop of vanilla ice cream, 2 teaspoons (or more or less, depending on how much caffeine you want your child to consume) of general foods international frech vanilla instant coffee. Blend and enjoy!
bettybee21539506.5690972222Wow...i didnt know the moccachino recipe was gonna be such a hit!Since I am addicted to Starbucks, and at a pop 2 times a day it gets expensive I am going to try your recipe too!
Great idea gals! I sooooooooo want that this one!
Mochaccino: 1 packet of chocolate CIB, 1/2 cup of while milk, 1 big scoop of vanilla ice cream, 2 teaspoons (or more or less, depending on how much caffeine you want your child to consume) of general foods international frech vanilla instant coffee. Blend and enjoy! AND so dont need it!! LOL
I havent been really experimental yet with mine. First off, have to buy a blender. I just do whole milk, CIB vanila and 3 scoops of Nestle quick powder!
I am gonna print these out!
The mocaachino tastes really good. I took a sip of it and it reminded me of a starbucks frapaccino but richer. Next time i do one (which will probably be tonight!) I am going to make a version for myself. Maybe ice, the french vanilla instant coffee, some chocolate quick instead of the chocolate CIB, and milk, and maybe some ice cream (depending how fat i'm feeling ) i'll let you know how it turns out. Hopefully good!! The orange dream one tastes just like those orange sherbert popsicles with the vanilla ice cream inside. Really good.
inspiredbymusic...i have to stop tasting my sons cause that's what will happen to me!
Wow!! These look sooooooo good that I want one. My daughter LOVES smoothies so she might actually go for some of these. THANKS!!
BTW...I want the macciono one!! That looks too good!!
Oh this is GREAT information! My son is nearly 7 yrs old and wieghs 64 lbs as of 2 mo ago. He is tall too so he looks like a poor malnurished child from Etheopia! The dr said hes actualy right where he should be tho but I cant STAND seeing his ribs! He doesnt usualy want breakfast and doesnt really eat much till bed time. Im going to try these for sure, I think he'd really like them! Thanks so much! My daughter really likes this "banana shake" recipe:I bought the slim fast bars for my breakfast, and my boys are always stealing them. I pretend that I am soooo upset and they want them even more, and they use it as snack bars through out the day. I figure just keeping adding the protein. I was reading one of the ADHD books and they talked about keeping consistent protein levels throughout the day. Of course weight gain would be great, but I am taking what I can. My son is 7 and 40 lbs, just fell off the growth chart again! I do have to say that he has never been very big and I have spent alot of time trying to get him to gain weight. Every pound for him has added 5 to me, LOL!
He also will like something 1 week, and then not the next. I have just started rotating the montly and that seems to do the trick. Now to try the CIB drinks.
