Trileptal for ADHD and Bipolar | ADHD Information
Has anyone had experience with Trileptal? I'm ADD and was reading up on it and realized that my fiance who is diagnosed Bipolar has the symptoms of the Ring of Fire and Temperal lobe types of ADHD.
He angers easily, usually over nothing, and then feels horrrible. He is very manic - doesn't sleep, non stop talking, etc.
Trileptal has been suggested and I have looked into it but would like to hear some real life experiences.
Thanks in advance for any advice or musings!I wanted to add that none of the Bipolar medications have worked for him. One even incapacitated him and took away all urges. It was Invega if anyone's wondering.
That's why I'm researching new medications for him and this new revelation that he may be ADHD or both (this is possible).Hi There,
My 8 year old has been on Trileptal for mood stability as well. It has helped him immensely over the year he has been on it. He is on other meds but the Trileptal has helped keep his moods even. Before he was on it he would be happy one minute and either crying and tantruming the next minute of lashing out in anger. His moods were like a roller coaster and the trileptal has helped get him off of that roller coaster. I hope this helps.

My 6 year old son takes Trileptal for mood stability--he would get irritable and angry. He has ADHD. I think it is helping some with the combo of his other meds (stimulant and an anti-depressant). It is hard to tell exactly what each med is doing. He has had no side effects though.
My husband also takes Trileptal for epilepsy and he has also had good luck with the med with no side effects and no seizures in years.
Does he still get angry and irritable? They put him on Strattera but he's still not at the recommended dose. He's trying hard but the anger and irritability are still just waiting right at the surface if you understand. It's probably a lot harder when he's six!
I myself have been on every anti depressant they've made and decided they are all sugar pills except Prozac and Effexor, maybe on the Zoloft. But I like to tell parents this because I don't want to see kids on any more meds than they have to be plus the costs! I'm actually on Lyrica now, which is for fibromyalgia but has the side effect of euphoria and is approved in Europe for social anxiety. It works.
