When my son was younger and couldn't just swallow his pill we would put it in applesauce (whole) and then he could swallow it.
Good luck
I sprinkled beads on a oreo cookie! My son would swallow the cream right down. We never had a problem with any of our kids swallowing pills (we just kinda told them they had no choice, and eventually they did it), but I've heard of people who practice swallowing with M&M's and other small candies.....
Another suggestion could be to change to the Daytrana Patch. No swallowing of pills.
Well she has been successfully taking Dex 7.5 x2 day now for about 6 months. We are just switching to the XR so that she does not have to come home at lunch to take a second dose (or go to the office to take it) The XR capsul is for 10mg.
I am thinking there is not much difference between the two since it is the same drug and overall on the tablet she is on 15mg total for the day and the capsul will be 10mg......?
Anyone switch from a tablet to long acting (same drug though) and notice a difference I am not foreseeing??

I don't have experience with Dexidrine but my son has taken both the short and long acting Adderall. Neither one totally worked for him in the end but I did notice a difference betweem the short and long acting doses. He was more emotional and had horrible rebound on the short acting dose. This got better when we switched to the XR long acting version. I'm not saying this will happen for you but I just wanted to say that I did notice a significant difference even though it's the same medication.
We also burried the beads in a spoon of apple sauce, pudding, or yogurt. When he had to start taking an actual pill we carved out a little hole in a small piece of peach and he swollowed it whole. He didn't seem to mind as long as he could convince himself it was just food!
I am an adult and I take Dexedrine 30mg. tablets. I can't afford the long lasting varieties. I would think that there isn't much difference between the two. I think what helps the XR versions is a coating on the pills so that they are digested more slowly, therefore, getting released into the blood stream slower.Hi, we have a 6yr old daughter ADHD. She is taking Dexedrine in tablet form x2 a day. We crush it and put it in a drink. However, we are now trying the spansule (capsul with beads) b/c it is long acting and I would like for her to be able to go to school and not have to return home for lunch (for her medication)
We plan on opening the capsul and adding the little beads to pudding, yogurt, something you just swallow without chewing. Does anyone have any better suggestions??? Our psych. said this was fine. I am wondering though, she may not like the beads on her tongue in the pudding, if you know what I mean. Can I put these beads in a tiny bit of water and have her drink it through a straw?
She is unable to swallow these pills, or believe me we would so go that route. She is only 6 after all.
Any previous experience and advice would be greatly appreciated.
I know that you can also open adderall xr and sprinkle on like yogurt and pudding. This is a long acting med as well.
I have NOT experience with dex. med at all. I also have a son who tried adderall xr but it was not the right med for him.
We taught him rather quickly to swallow pills at age 6, almost 7. He just listened to what we told him and tried really hard. We were lucky especially with a sensory kid.
I wish I could offer you more experience. I will tell you our experience with concerta AND tenex has been fabulous.
I hope everything works out for your daughter and you!! I know it is very emotional but once you get the meds down to where you need them to be, life is so much better!!
