Just curious if you have researched anymore about Zoloft/vyvanse/Intuniv combination? My eight year old is taking zoloft and vyvanse as well, we just started the vyvanse and have seen improvements with impulsivness and sillness controlled but not a lot of improvements with focus. However, his OCD has increased, it nows takes him longer to do is homework not beacuse of foucs, but because he feels that is handwriting and/or problems are not correct. This is a child with an IEP that really struggles in school. We are now unsure from researching, if we should change the Vyvanse to Strattera or maybe add the Intuniv which seems to have overall good reviews. He is currently taking 25mg of zooft and 20mg of Vyvanse, Any Thoughts??
thanks any advice would be great
My son has never taken Intuniv but has been on Tenex for about a year to help counteract the side effects of Ritalin. One of the side effects was anxiety and the Tenex helped tremendously! He wouldn't have been able to take the Ritalin without the Tenex. The Tenex helps give him an overall calm mood.My child used to take Metadate CD, Zoloft, and Tenex (now taking Intuniv instead of Tenex). Both Intuniv and Tenex have the active ingredient of guanfacine, with the former one being the 24-hour version of it. Guanfacine has been essential in managing my child's Generalized Anxiety Disorder. He can tolerate only very low doses of Zoloft, and guanfacine is the key to having him sleep at night, deal with the presence of bugs, not have panic attacks, etc. Keep in mind that Zoloft can make ADHD symptoms worse. It might help focus if Intuniv or Tenex works for both ADHD and anxiety, and then you can lower the Zoloft (since Intuniv or Tenex also is helping with anxiety). Not saying that's a replacement for a stimulant, but it might help some. Vyvanse did that to my daughter, too. She became obsessed w/ getting things just right. It was really quite sad. We eventually stopped the Vyvanse. We are now trying Concerta and Zoloft without much success. We have just stopped giving my son Vyvansse, his OCD became too much. It did help with him I think organizing thoughts, listening, etc., but it made me feel horrible that he was obsessing about things at school all day. I hate to hear that Concerta is not working for you, if you have had any luck with anything else, please let me know. My son still needs something for his focus or lack of. The zoloft helps with anxiety but it has been difficult to find something else that may work as well. We have a doctors appointment Monday so i quess we will see what the doc say then. Keep us posted!!
Thanks! In case this helps, my daughter was on Intuniv for a few weeks. It helped her anxiety somewhat, but not her attention/focus. The bad thing is it made her very sleepy and the tiredness did not go away with time. But your son is older and probably larger so you might have a better response. I am just not sure that Intuniv is a good thing for very small kids because of the tired issue - at least not a good thing for my kid. That is interesting, b/c we tried Tenex about a year ago and I can't remember the exact dosage amount but I do remember the medicine making my son very tired and sleepy as well, almost like a "zombie." We are thinking about trying Intuniv next, since he is a year older now. I read though that some patients think the Intuniv works better when it is added with a stim., but I don't have any experience with that. I feel the same b/c I want to try a few other options before we change to Strattera. We have also tried Focalin, was not good, great focus, again increased anxiety????How does Zoloft dosing work? Is 200 mg a very high dose? Just curious.Mom2ADHDboy40188.7987847222 Yes, it's very high. DD's psychologist said that she rarely sees improvement with bad OCD on doses less than 200mg. This was while DD was being seen for CBT. Her psychiatrist agreed. heatherr140188.9001736111My DD decided to just stay with the Intuniv and Zoloft for now. She did increase her Zoloft back up to 200mg, and feels pretty good. I am a little relieved, honestly. The Vyvanse was so bad for the OCD that I am very hesitant to try them together.Just wondering MaryKath how the Concerta and Zoloft are working? You said earier that it was not helping that much.Just curious???
