High sex drive | ADHD Information

BCGirl - I've experienced the same thing. I think its the high that you
experience with stimulants.

Iv'e always had a lot of anxiety when dealing with women unfortunately........However......my confidence is 110% in that department!!! lol

Wow, kristen tell me more - haha

I wasn't aware of the dopamine connection...well, actually I am aware of it, but I think I was thinking of it the other way around...Anybody know how to keep norepinephrine abundant? Tyrosine? Stimulants?  As I age I feel I have less of it. I think that is the missing link, in my case. I often lack the impetus to act.

But sexually, it is like Pavlov's dog. Once you get it going, you can just think of the recipient, or see him and have a significant physiological response.

Hmm,

Ahhh,
erm,

Well....
Ya know, the answers to this could quickly go down the path of TMI.

Lets just say, when all conditions are right (health, rest, etc) it is high.

But it doesn't take much to knock it off the rails ;)

I have to agree. When all factors are good... then yes, my sex drive is through the roof. However, over the past couple of years, I've been HATING my job and it has taken a drastic toll on my emotional health. My poor boyfriend is lucky if he gets it once a month from me. It has nothing to do with him, it really is all me. I feel horrible for him because he truly is wonderful, and he really is being very supportive of my getting an ADHD diagnosis.
Quik1's response made me think of something.... a little off topic, but not really... can anyone else make themselves have an orgasm while dreaming? Sometimes, when I am having a lucid dream (a dream where you know you are dreaming), I can think about sex and end up having an orgasm. I wake up all tense and tingly like I've just had one for real. It's nearly always happened in the mid-morning hours, like 8-10am. It is quite fascinating, not to mention pleasurable.

I've mentioned this to a couple of really close people (like my boyfriend and a close girlfriend), and they were both flabbergasted. Apparantly this is a unique talent...
Hey guys,
Is it typical for an adult with adhd to have a high sex drive????
Hi, Sussie,
An interesting situation for ADHDers. I am not sure if it is a "general" trait of ADHD
that has ever really been researched. This I will say, I have a no problems in
sexual response, being impulsive and imaginitive and hunter/explorer certainly
makes sex a very large canvas for me as an individual. To be honest though I
have as yet not found another person that would share that particular view
point, other then some of the responses on this issue the last time it was on
the board. I am delighted you raised it again, because, sexuality and it's
Place within the ADHD community, seems to me, an issue that has been
avoided to a great extent. Orgasm from fantasy is not something I have
ever experienced, OMG, I am jealous GGGGGGGGGaaaaaaaarrrr!

Good to know...

Uh,

ah,

You aren't alone

Hey guys,
Is it typical for an adult with adhd to have a high sex drive???? Not for me...

But other factors such as depression, self-esteem, and meds can affect such things too.
bcgirl197838393.70625

Do you mean on meds or off? Either way the answer is yes. Sex is one of the ways our brain can "make" or harness dopamine.

Yes I do! Very much so, if I am with someone I want it all the time. It actually helps me think clearer; I always used to do it the morning of exams lol!

However due to the antidepressants to help me sleep, I find it more difficult to orgasm than I did before. This can be worked around with a supportive partner though:)

Anyone else find this?

But perhaps I've said too much . . .

shinsetu_hito38395.5513541667
I've never really enjoyed receiving oral sex as much as I thought I was "supposed" to - most women I know complain their guys don't do it enough for them.
I don't like it either. There are so many things I would SOOOO much rather get to... oral sex seems to just get in the way. I don't enjoy it in the slightest and I wish my boyfriend didn't enjoy DOING it.

LOL - I've always been a "get to the point" kind of person.
bcgirl197838397.4907638889I'm sure this is going to be too much information, but anyway!...

I've never really enjoyed receiving oral sex as much as I thought I was "supposed" to - most women I know complain their guys don't do it enough for them. I figured most guys just aren't very good at it - LOL. But after being diagnosed ADHD a few months ago, I realized that it's just really hard for me to focus when a guy is all busy "down there" - I get bored! I do enjoy giving guys oral, but getting it is not a big priority for me.

I've also had some guys get annoyed that I tend to talk in bed, also I've gotten a few comments over the years like "wow you REALLY like sex!" which just makes me wonder how the rest of the world is doing it? ;)
One interesting point for me about being on meds i feel the urge to climax a lot
sooner then when i was not on meds. i have to say the awareness of my own
sexual need has also improved. I am like others also fasinated by the urge to have
a regular "Quicky". I was more of long slow foreplay type of guy before but my
recent fantacy is to have a quicky, basically, when and where possible.

Hi, I am new to the site, I saw this thread and knew I had to post.

I was diagnosed about 3 years ago, but just recently started taking meds for ADHD and since I started taking Concerta my sex drive has gone through the roof! all I want to do is have sex, and if my hubby's not avaliable I will masturbate for hours! It seems that with every orgasm I get more and more worked up and need to keep comming. I looked up info on Concerta but it does not state this as a side affect.

bcgirl1978,

I have had orgasms in my sleep, but it seemed to me like I was some what concious at the time but not really awake, hard to explain, but OMG are they goooooooooood.

High Sex drive right here... my girlfriend finds it frustrating because I just can't get enough. I was finally out sexed by her this weekend, too romantic of a place (Sybaris), I was the one sore for the first time, not her. Probably to descriptive but man, I am still amazed.Never thought of the high sex drive as an ADHD thing, but I guess it
makes sence.
This is making me wonder if my recent issues with my ADHD has
something to do with the fact that its been just over a year since I have
had sex, and worse the last 3 times were drunk one night stands, putting
me at about 2 years since I have had sober sex. Pretty sad for a 21 year
old college student. More recently I think my eagerness to have sex has
resulted in 3 occasions of sleeping with girls in the last month and a half
ending in me giving her oral and her just leaving me hanging... litteraly.
I could go on for hours about me and problems with sex, fear of being
bad at it, fear of the emotional attachments with it, as well as the
question of what am I doing wrong.
just some thoughts. Watch this its the story of my life.
More Sex Than Mei definitely find this to be true of myself. it might go back to that
whole constantly needing high levels of stimulation that is
common in adhd. the dopamine connection also makes sense
- it is also why we are so prone to addictive behaviors. funny
thing was, when i went on strattera, the overactive libido got
even worse! and now with the ritalin...well

anyone else experience this "side effect" while on
pharmacotherapy?my sex drive is off the chart!Velvetinkbrush, I remember when I was taking stratera there was this
night I was hanging out w/ a few friends (3 of us guys, and 2 girls) and
my 2 buddies were trying to hook up with the girls and much to my
dissapointment I was having no luck in my efforts. The big joke for weeks
was that after one of my unsuccessful attempts I just got up and said "I'm
going outside to slowly kill myself with a cancer stick." Granted I was just
going to smoke a cig, but I guess it was a little over dramatized.
anyway, thought you all would enjoy the funny story, and yes, I did notice
being overly frustrated with sex on the stratera, only I dont think I was as
prone to the other method of sexual relief while I was taking it.

Tom

I think this is very interesting.

I was surprised the the immediate surge in my sex drive, I was feeling kind of icky before, and I had had my 1st child then breastfeed him for 17 months and I had no desire for sex or even masturbating. When I finished breastfeeding I went to the  doc and he puts me on Wellbutrin, I hated it, It wound me up real bad and made me feel angry.(I had not been on any ADD med before this)

But then he gave me Concerta an OMG it was immediate, total desire non stop, hell I am horny right now! My hubby affectionatly calls Concerta my "crack"

Dragonlady76,
Thank you, i thought i was alone with this side effect of Concerta. I am 55, male,
seperated, spouse left me after ? diagnosis, funny strange that. Well i can tell you
my desire for sex has "Driven me to Distraction" ( sorry Thom). I have never
experienced such an intensity in all my sexually active years.
Viagra, PHAAA. Wow bring on the girls, here is one old guy that feels Wow!!!

I actually did research on Concerta as soon as I realized how ungodly horny it made me. Not one place listed this as a side effect. And no one reviewing the med metioned it either.

I was going to tell my doc, but I don't feel like this is a bad side effect so I kept it to myself.

Well, it's a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, and dopamines are associated with pleasure seeking...
