Anyone have these: constant swallowing (like when you swallow to try to pop your ears on a flight) and jaw clenching (just clenching, not grinding my teeth).
*I take 20mgs 3x/day.
Thanks!
i can't believe someone else clenches their teeth! i also grind them!! i thought it was because i had gotten braces and my teeth shifted. i do believe it is the med .i also have hot flashes with it. also when it first takes affect, i seem to talk alot more initially. what other side effects are you experiencing!I still can't find *why* physiologically the jaw clenching happens, but it seems to be a function of dosage; perhaps your dose is too high? Or maybe you'll become tolerant to it eventually... not sure. Might be worth talking to your doctor about. I am another jaw clencher. I find that I do it most often when the dosage is waxing or waning.I have the talking thing when it starts to take effect..I can't figure that one out...When I first started taking meds...I was alot less talkative. I also get cold....my doc says it is because of the blood vessils being restricted...I also get a bit of a buzz when it first comes on too...Not sure of the ear popping, but I know the clenching is a very common side effect of methamphetamine which is closely related to ampethetamine (ie: adderall). I've no idea why it happens.I had the same side effects on Adderal, the teeth clenching, dry mouth and I wasn't hungry. I put up with all these because the medication really helped me and it was worth it. I even bit my cheeks and tongue, which I truly hated!
I have tried the herb ginko and it has given me the same relief as adderal, even better I think without any of those side effects of dry mouth, clenching teeth, etc. I've been trying it for three months now and really love it. I feel it works better for me than Adderall did. But you have to be careful of herbal supplements because they are not regulated and companies could put whatever they want in them. No one checks. But I have had success with them. To each his own, I guess.
OMG!!!! I bite my cheeks too...I have perm scars on my cheeks from bitting them all the time...when I used to model in store windows as a live mannequin I would bite the sides of my cheek to keep me from smiling at the stupid people who would make faces...so I thought I just did this again because of what I used to do under stress...I bet I do it because of the med.
Yeah, I take adderall and I have the same teeth clenching side affect (among others such as occasional pain in the chest area, occasional twitches, more). I used to chew gum, but I felt like it only fueled my teeth-clenching sensation more and my jaw got tired from chewing so much gum. So I instead I suck on lozenges.
Also I try to do stretching exercises with my jaw, opening it up wide.
I clench my jaw too....chew gum makes it easier on your teeth....I take adderall...I too start talking right after I first take it....but it is not a speed talk it is just that I have the guts/energy(who knows) to make phone calls and I talk...I like this because if I did not take the med I would never do anything I need to do...When I was in highschool I tried X and some other speed type of drugs...they made me clench my jaw too...but in a different way...I think it may be a side effect of speed.Oh yeah...I forgot to tell you I too have the swallowing problem...and my ears do get stopped up....when I am on the med...I live near the coast so I think it has to do with the combination of meds and barometric pressure outside...because when I am somewhere that does not have drastic change in pressure...the medicine does not cause this and when I am not on the med at home with the pressure problem...I dont have the swallowing problem...I know that dry mouth is a side effect maybe it drys the sinus...who knows...who cares the drug works...so you have to swallow a couple of more times a day...who cares
Okay, the one side effect I have noticed taking adderall (XR 30mg) is I sweat. I NEVER use to sweat it could be 80 degrees outside and if I had a sweatshirt on I still didn't sweat. Now, I find myself doing the "underarm quick sniff"! to see if I stink (my hubby thinks I'm nuts!) I even carry my secret (deoderant not a real secret!) with me to work, church, just out, for Pete sakes! Has anyone else noticed this? BUT as to the cold thing, my hands are ALWAYS freezing. Nothing else, just my hands. No jaw clenching here, just a bad taste, like I have been sucking on nickles or something, in my mouth. Obviously, my adderall hasn't kicked in yet this morning because I notice I'm rambling now! Don't worry I ramble with or without the adderall....I don't take the XR I take it several times a day.....no extended release....so I don't know about the sweat thing....
