Ensure or other drinks | ADHD Information
I didn't much care for ensure (hated the way it tasted). If ensure doesn't
work, try smoothies each morning and have him take it to school. It gave
me a little extra boost without breakfast each morning, maybe it'll do the
same to him?Hi maria1, my doctor also told me to do this for my son, we get the equate brand at walmart it is much cheaper, or target sells boost plus for a good price. My son will drink the equate brand with no problem, but does not like the boost so much. What my Dr. also said to do was make it into a frappé, so i now add ice cream, whole milk, a dash of cream, when he's not looking a little bit of instant breakfast, and then the chocolate syrup, it May sound like alot, but is slowly helping with his weight. He also prefers the chocolate flavor, but will also drink strawberry!
I bet there is a little extra something in there to help your child
gain weight in a safe way. I bet the doctor is also looking at the
nutritional value of the drink as well.
Want a cheaper way? Get some CHOCOLATE Ovaltine (it is in the
cereal section) and mix it with half homo milk and half cream. I mix
the Ovaltine with a little warm water first so that it desolves better
in the milk... or you could serve it as hot chocolate. Ovaltine
contains no fat, just vitamins and minerals... but the milk and cream
do! More cream, more fat.
Good luck:)

Cindy38454.8544907407Has anyone else tried ensure or one of the other nutritional drinks on the market to help with gaining weight? My son's doctor told me to try it for weight gain. I bought it today so maybe it works. I just hope he will like it. They sell different flavors so we bought the chocolate since he likes chocolate milk. He has weighed the same thing for a year now and he only grew 1 1/2 inches in the last 10 months.Hi Razzlynne, that stuff your making sounds like what my son would love to have. The more stuff you add the better he likes it. Especially if he can add it himself. Sounds like when we go to Old Country Buffet and he piles the junk on top of ice cream. Its enough to make you sick in your stomach.
Hey everyone,
I went thru simular things with my son who is 12, he actually lost 10 lbs when he was placed on Concerta, but the instant breakfast drinks, they have things you can add like bananas and other lil things to make it almost like a smoothie that are really great, also you may try pedia-sure, it's made for kids and is probably more likely to cater to what they need via ensure. I'm all for saving money so look for some of the cheaper brands of this, they can be found in the baby isle with the baby formula and food. Also make some shakes and things like that at home for him, you can get whole milk, a lil sugar, banana's with ice and blend it in a blender. Try Ovaltine, breakfast cearal bars and lil things like that to build his weight. You dont want to burn him out on the same things so try a varity of things. You know give him all the things that will give you hips if you even smelled it
Hi maria1, i know except with my picky son, he will only drink a half of one if I'm lucky once a week. I try to tell him your signed up for football in the fall, and sept. 10 is national weigh in, do you understand you are very light for your age, he goes yeah i know, but like i told him he will have 9 year olds on his team that weight almost 20 pounds more then him, and he just doesn't seem to care, ugh maybe he'll realize in August how much it matters even if he gains 5 pounds!Ovaltine is much better and ALL the kids in my daycare love it.Ensure
gets expensive and taste like s#@$,my little girl was on it for about 9
months and she liked the banana flavor but i tasted it and im like
ewwwwwwwwwwww and it is expensive.Ovaltine is much less, like 3-4 a can
here anyhow and it goes a long way compared to ensure, you mix it with
milk.
