Sinusitis/post nasal drip & Dexedrine | ADHD Information

Got a question for people using dexedrine sulphate spansules and other similar amphetamines long-term.  Do you suffer from sniffles, sinusitis (inflamed like having a cold all the time) and just plain stuffy head all the time?

I have constant sniffles and cold symptoms now.  If I take my "drug holiday" for a week as recommended to me, the sniffles go away after a day or so on pseudoephedrine.  All gone and doesn't come back until I'm back on ADD meds for about 48 hours again.

I notice little about it on the warnings - some mention of sinusitis as being rare but not serious symptom for some.

Also, has anyone tried Coricidin (sp?) - the sinus meds for high-blood pressure?  I want to find out if anyone has tried it and if it really works as good as say sinutab or other pseudoephedrine meds for sinusitis and other cold/cough symptoms.  I've been careful to never mix my meds and want relief as well as ADD relief!  Help guys!!!

OLD POST:
.....Early on, I thought my postnasal drip problem was due to a slight increase in smoking--up to 5 cigarettes a day more than I usually have.
After a few weeks of more frequent smoking, I’m back to my old ‘regular’ amount, but the crap (snot) at the back of my throat is still there.
NEW POST:
Well, I have an amazing sinus infection, thus now doubt the snotty-ness was due to the addreall!!

sakura - I know how you feel.  Sometimes you think "is it me going backwards again?" - paranoia will destroy ya! LOL

I know the drip too well.  I had a guy at work during break bug me about it.  I tried to be quiet "sniff sniff" and he was obnoxious about it mimicing me "snort snort" tee hee. argh wanted to do something bad in his locker.

I ignored him - and some of my new friends at work told him to back off.  I'm finding I'm not alone thankfully.

The lack of migraines has been good.  Lately them coming back has me a bit worried but it may have been my short time adding strattera to the mix.

We'll see.

Thanks for adding your two bits buddy!

hey there, I have not tried coricidin yet.  I have high blood pressure and besides the adderall I now take a little pill to keep the blood pressure in check...The thing that really gets to me is when I get a funny head...that is when I feel like my head is going to explode from either a migranine and or sinus headache which I had the pleasure of yesterday...OMG, if I could have removed myself from the neck down I would have...those days I lay my head on ice and hope it will numb everything out..the worst part is being hyper and being in pain all at the same time...Let me know if the coricidin works for you...maybe I will give it a try...Let's hope for the best and a nice clear headed nostral day...

Awww... I feel terrible that you get that too.

When I get a sudden onset of those kind of migraines - my fast and quick help is to right away take a cup of double-strength hot HOT coffee as quick as I can.  I also down it with tylenol extra strength to help it move along.

The coffee has always at least calmed down the BOOM BOOM that I suffer from.

The wierd part is that when I started the meds 8 months ago - suddenly ALL headaches went away!  I didn't put that together until I set up this thread.  Somehow I think it relaxed me and opened up the blood vessels.  Now though I'm getting an increase again.  Don't want to go to the docs yet as when I had intestinal cramps I got 2 meds, and I know he'll do his best but his skills are as a general practice MD and sometimes even I can see it's over his skills.

I sure will tell you about the coricidin right away!  I feel bad that you have been through this too.  It's a bugger for sure and stops the improvements that the meds give us in their tracks.

I'll stay in touch kiddo.

That is strange, I used to get really bad migranes, but since I have started the ADderall they are not as often...I think they are set off by the nose...I go back to the Dr. next monday, he wanted me to try Focalin, bad bad bad..very strange pill...I didn't like it at all..He wants to up my adderall from 20mg xr to 25mg xr...You mentioned intestinal cramps...Don't laugh, but I have been experiencing this latley...Is the one of the side effects of adderrall???

I think it's the dexedrine for sure.  I've been finding small number of postings elsewhere that mention it and the meds do say "affect the smooth muscles in the body" which would be our blood vessel linings, intestines, etc.

I've gotten horrible cramps if I don't nibble all day long - not easy when you work in a factory and get 2 - 20min breaks!  I found the strattera was WORST OF ALL - when I went on strattera it felt like appendicitis!  Now I'm off it again I still cramp but it's normalized.  The cramps are odd - started by thinking I had kidney infection as it hits the love handles and moves with gas or food in your system.  It's ranging from bad bubble feeling to eating glass shards.

Still - I'd rather cramp than switch! LOL

I'm on Gas-X and Dicetel and if I watch when I eat and take both then it's not too bad.  The Dicetel works great most times - and it's cool that the only side effect they list at all is "flatulence".  Believe it if you get on it - and if you don't have a dog to blame I'd recommend getting one! LOL

lambiekin - have you tried the coricidin?  I am going to try it as it is the only meds for stuffy and runny noses that is ok for use with amphetamines (so I hear).  I'd like to know if anyone has had a bad effect or anything I should know about it.

If you want to breathe again - you can skip a day of adderal and take 2 extra strenght sinutab first thing in the morning.  It's helped when I'm just at the end of my rope.  Sometimes the sinuses flare up where I get a migraine and just can't sleep or even think.

All I want is a little less sniffles during use of my meds.  Is that too much to ask for?? If it does work I'll let everyone know that there's a tool for us to use.

darn hoping for better news from people.  If I'm not taking my meds for a day - I can take sinutab or some other pseudo ephedrine but I'm looking to have my cake and eat it too!  I know the meds flare up my drip and general sinus problems and would just love some mild relief.

That flonase sounds like a drag.  I can sneeze fine just have to breathe deep through my nose a few times!

I don't remember the last time I was able to breathe from my nose...What is like???  Flonase snells like grandma's perfume...Hey Glen, I have awful post nasal drip...My sinus's are really bad.  I am on adderall and it seems no matter what I take for my sinu's they are still the same.  I also tend to loose my voice if my sinus's get really bad in the damp and cold weather...My Dr. is very careful about sinus meds she recommends because of the reaction with the adderall...she said the safest thing to use is a nasal spray called flonase, which so far has done nothing but makes me sneeze...
